The secret finally out (though possibly already discussed a while back).

So nice, I just replaced my card, they ask me to collect it in branch because I just moved and address changed within the 30 days, so many hassle

Seems like quite alot of hassle

New Hilton debit cards giving Monzo Plus vibes.

It’s by Currensea. Everyone can get it pretty much. I think it’s focusing more on foreign spend.

Ugh, how disappointing. I had seen rumours swirling of a new Hilton product. Thought it’d be better than this though.

To be honest I’m sort of done with Hilton in general now. Had some good experiences during Covid with decent room rates and upgrades but more recent stays have felt like I’ve paid more and got less - I tend to value a space I can cook proper food in now when travelling.

The two cards look alright. The £90 for Hilton Honors Silver and £150 for Gold.

Silver is worthless but Gold is worth considering if you stay often in Hilton hotels. The free breakfast for 2 makes Gold worth it.

Shame there’s no card in the UK that gets you Diamond like in the US.

I want both!!!

I like this card even more now! But I can’t justify the fee for the benefits.

I used to be quite happy to sleep on a floor with a folded sweatshirt for a pillow if needed for a night. Certainly wouldn’t want to do that now.

Just got back from holiday where we’ve had a few fabulous places to stay.

However the worst was a Marriott in Portsmouth on the way to the ferry. Utterly grim, soulless, pretty rubbish breakfast. There was a Premier Inn a couple of hundred yards away and I’d have preferred that.

Often use one when I visit my parents. Not luxury but perfectly adequate and comfortable for what I need. Don’t get me wrong, I love a luxury hotel but even if I could find one near my parents’ place I wouldn’t waste my money for a night without the wife where I only need a place to sleep for 8 hours.

The only hotel I’ve ever checked out of without staying was a Hilton (Nottingham). Beautiful old building but terrible rooms. Electric heater using up 1 of the 2 sockets available for guest use.

It has had a refit subsequently tho.

This reminds me of the time I visited Vienna with a friend who convinced me not to book a chain hotel like I usually do. The place we ended up at had rather anemic AC, and in August this meant a couple of very sweaty nights.

As for the value proposition, depends on where you go. Gold does get you pretty far in Asian countries, for instance. Silver, though, not worth spending anything on.

Part of me is tempted to the Plus Card. As I do travel a lot with my job just I don’t really ever stay in Hiltons :joy:

HSBC’s Premier World Elite MasterCard has a new design in the UK.

Is the ‘HSBC UK’ lettering and logo recessed or shiny/reflective?

It’s a shiny metallic film, much like the Mastercard logo.

Yeah, not entirely sure why they ever thought that was a good idea, but at least they realised pretty quickly it is an important thing to include

Does knock the security on the head when they generally say to call the number on the back of your card!
