Collected thoughts on card design (Part 1)

They were checking money coming in or out?

Cool, I can apply for it through premier.

How do you find using it in the UK?

I’m guessing the 0% conversion fee is good. Does the statement show you your spend in USD then the conversion to GBP?

I have the non-Elite one from HSBC US.

Yes, it shows USD, the original GBP and its rate on the statement. The major benefit is “Travel Points” given to you when you use the card. 1x Travel Points means 1% cash back.

With the Elite card, you can get 1x / 2x / 3x points depends on the category of the transaction, which mean 1% / 2% / 3% cash back.

Is that the US version not the UK one?

Was it a fairly process to apply for the card?

IIRC the process was quite straightforward. I got a US phone number with eSim because of the requirement. They asked me to provide proof of income, and few days later I recevied the card via DHL.

My current stack of Amex cards. Not bad.

I will always kick myself over not opening the green charge card. Realised too late that I’d prefer having a charge card at least.

The gold is the best looking card, followed by the green, IMO. Platinum is so boring.

Definitely agree the gold card is the best one, it’s the only one that stands out.

Considering the fee, the platinum card design is just too plain.

I wish they’d resurrect the green Amex with a hard white border outside the filigree bits

There’s something about that jadey green colour that I just love. Would look good in an apple wallet as well I bet

As long as it isn’t the Monzo green, I’m all for it…

Arrived today, seems like there’s no physical update to the premier cards yet, still the same embossed design. Must just be a bit of nice design for the app

Does Apple Pay look the same?

OH just got a replacement blue Plus card. Still think it’s the nicest one.

Yeah still the same as the physical card, I like the design to be fair but the sleek one in that app screenshot without the blue logo/text would be even nicer

Also annoyingly the “card” in the Monzo app stays blue even after removing the account and re-adding it, I guess it just brings in the generic Barclays brand colour

Amex still offer the Basic Card which is a charge card. No points or cash back unfortunately but still get the AMEX protection and customer service. American Express - The Basic Card | American Express UK
I also prefer a charge card

Why? I know there’s the discipline of having to clear it each month but you don’t know whether a given purchase will be approved and you don’t get the S75 protection either.
