Collected thoughts on card design (Part 1)

My black Algbra card finally arrived - placed next to my FD card for comparison (which has not faired well in my wallet at all)

Why not?

9 days late, but I really don’t like those Halifax and HSBC cards. It is just “let’s put our logo massively in the middle, along with another logo in the corner just in case no one spotted the massive one”. I just don’t get it and they don’t look that nice either.

Santander still gets the win for me. It is a nice stylish design without the logo being too big.

The bit that sticks out in the wallet matters. And it’s nice to have distinctive features there. Granted not sure some of the designs actually fit into the wallet cut out space anything useful.

I thought tessellating the HSBC logo would look cool but after a very crude mockup it looks more like a designer handbag than a debit card

Still, I’m sure they could come up with something more interesting than a big logo in the middle. The lack of padding around the edge still gets me. I dunno. I’m sure they go through numerous rounds of designs with their team and focus groups or whatever and they know better than me, but they just feel uninspired.

It does, but it’s better than what HSBC came up with.

Louis Vuitton, surely?

Normally the ones who actually have money have some kind of old tote bag with holes in :eyes:

Just that yellow card that ruins it

I like that you’ve swapped out the yellow card (despite yellow being the best :sunshine:)

It’s that time of year when I impulsively look to balance transfer the remainder on my existing card with 7mths 0% left on it just cause I’ve seen a load of cool card designs on here lol

Yes, satire tho of course - not going to damage that credit score for a new card design lol

What you saving that precious score for?

It’s a perfectly round number!

that was part of the joke hahahh

This! It’s one of my favourite designs as it stands. Unlike the starling one below, which looks like a Childs toy card

algbra and first direct are v original haha

I can’t, with you orienting those portrait cards on their sides. And not even the same side!

I actually think it’s fine. And it kinda hides the MasterCard logo (which is fine by me!)

But… I really don’t like the treatment of the NatWest logo. Years ago, it used to be very powerful (black on white). The red on purple just looks muddy - and it’s hidden in this card design.

#JusticeForTheNatWestLogo!

Don’t get me started on the 3D NatWest logo. It looks poor in virtually every setting I’ve seen it in. It might work if it was rendered in 3D on branches, but the 2D grading is whack.
