Collected thoughts on card design (Part 1)

(Apologies if it’s been posted already)

It doesn’t actually work. I opened my account 3 months ago and it only arrived in the post yesterday! It’s long since been replaced, and barclaycard were sending out old style cards as replacements.

Here’s mine, for comparison. It looks a little darker than in the photo…

That’s bossing the way to get rid of your old stock. Top work Barclaycard.

In a shock thought, I’ve realised I’ve never had a Barclaycard. I must be the only person in the UK not to have had one.

Five designs though. Probably should refresh my portfolio. I quite like the Barclaycard designs, but I’ve never even seen credit card designs for Bank of Scotland, Halifax, NatWest, RBS or the new design for first direct.

I don’t recommend them (their app is pretty rubbish and their customer service is beyond terrible) but they offer discounts at some places.

I’m old enough to have had one with a 13 digit PAN…

Likewise. Also had an Access card.

My first credit card, when only National Westminster Bank, Midland Bank and Lloyds Bank issued those, and only Barclays Bank issued Barclaycard. Barclays turned me down because I didn’t bank with them.

Had one via Midland. Distant memories :older_man:

Was it one of these beauties?

Wow there’s an image! For some reason, I thought mine was more dark blue (overall) but again, many moons have passed since the early-to-mid 80’s (cue Killing Joke track…)

Mine was 1984 so Mastercard and Eurocard logos on the back, and (presumably) on a Mastercard BIN. But yes, very similar.

All Access cards were green, red, and white. They all looked the same apart from the bank’s name on the front. It was only when they all changed to MasterCard that the banks introduced their own individual designs.

What is the back of the Natwest debit mastercard like? The RBS one is a nice pale blue but just wondering what they’ve gone for with Natwest.

It’s the same purple as on the front. Definitely a marmite card, but I don’t mind it too much

Yes, I think it’s quite a nice card.

The Barclays one I just got though…:face_vomiting:

Debit or credit? Can’t say that and not post a pic

I have a Barclays cash card on order…

Would you believe Smile (!) does a cash card?!

Lots of those in landfill near me. Every time they sent me or wife one of these (multiple savings accounts for almost 20 years) we just chopped them up. If we wanted cash, just transferred it to current account. All Monzo pots now though.
