Chase UK Chat (Part 2)

I think we are now in the forum phase of enjoying ‘how the mighty have fallen’. No restrictions (no fee / minimum spend) cashback of 1% has been an outstanding offer, and unless the limits of fees are changed, may not be beaten in the near future.

As you say cashback is still available, 1% at supermarkets where everyone spends to some extent, so is a relatively decent offer, for something that costs nothing.

Looking at the competition, unless you want an annual fee, even the usually more generous AMEX only offers 0.5%. So really if credit card spend is under £10k I still think Chase is worth it. But it now seems to have fallen out of favour on here.

I have not used mine since obtaining the Chase Credit card and, tbh, I have found the freedom of not having to keep checking balance and transferring funds over, a blessing well worth the sacrifice of a few pounds cashback for now.

Once I hit my Chase Credit limit, however, I may reconsider reuse of the debit card for eligible spends.

I have so many cards that cover so many things atm though, what I choose can change daily

The Chase offering isn’t bad but, when you look beyond the cashback, there are some drawbacks or omissions when you compare them against other banks. I chose Starling and Monzo for the comparison above but I could’ve picked any highstreet bank and showed a similar result.

Still, if you don’t care about the gaps in their product, then it’s perfectly reasonable to stick with them because their app is nice, the service seems to work well, and some cashback is better than no cashback.

I found the app slow and clunky on Android but I liked the overall setup.

It’ll never matter now, I’m not allowed back :sob:

Do NatWest and Lloyds not show BACS a day early?

Weird. Even my old Virgin One account used to show BACS and DDs one working day before they were paid.

Lloyds show nothing. Quite disconcerting coming from
HSBC. You don’t see anything till it comes out for DD, BACS or anything.

Worse still, while on the home page and at the top of the account you can only see balance after pending (which is good) the running balance under transactions shows you the cleared balance.

I could always see the direct debits and credits the day before with HSBC

HSBC would show upcoming bacs and direct debits due next working day.

I know  that’s why I said coming from HSBC to Lloyds it’s quite disconcerting not to have upcoming payments showing.

Ah the line break made me read it in other context. Apologies.

I haven’t used them in anger yet but Uphold offers 1% cashback on their debit card.

The virtual card is free - which you can stick behind a Curve card if desired to avoid paying for a physical one.

No apologies needed

That is a crypto card, so that’s more of a toy money experiment rather than a real alternative.

Obviously very much a personal choice, but I do like getting a little something for nothing when having to spend. But I don’t do switch deals, so I expect people would feel is crazy! Glad the credit card is going well though!

Fair point! Didn’t really consider that, we work our finances differently.

Yeah very much agree it’s not a fully featured account, and I could only manage it as I have a few accounts for the grown up stuff and this is just spending, but realise that might not be worth it for most.

Exactly what I have.

My credit limit is sat in highish interest rate savings accounts, earning way more than the 1% equivalent of spending it

Yes, but you don’t need to use it for Crypto..
