I don’t really understand them saying 30 days notice, but then they’d stop cashback immediately, how is that giving 30 days notice?
They say they might, however, I agree, that is hardly 30 days’ notice.
I assume that pending transactions will continue to earn the cashback under those circumstances, but no fresh ones from the date of giving notice.
Anyway, as it is only pennies, I am not that concerned tbh, in the scheme of things.
It may well be outsourced to Sykes then, rather than directly by them.
I’ve used chase for the last few days. The app was a bit slow and kept sticking at the end of last week, but then was much better. Now it’s really slow for me again. It takes ages for data to load and using the silly drawer thing on the main screen is very frustrating, as it sometimes responds, sometimes doesn’t, and sometimes ends up triggering a refresh instead.
Not such a big deal while it’s just card spending, but would be a massive pain for anything more involved with the app.
Hopefully just teething.
I signed up last night (after 6pm) and its still verifying my identity now. I’m not too bothered about using it really, Monzo has reached a point where it does everything I need to (virtual cards coming from dedicated pots is the last feature I was desperate for, having used it since Mondo days) but curious to see what else Chase offers in the future.
I’ve seen them on Twitter refer to their support as being based in both Edinburgh and Manilla. There is a huge JPM Chase customer service centre in Manilla, presumably set up mainly for their US consumer retail bank, but which might now have also taken on the role of providing support for Chase UK (along with a smaller team in Edinburgh for more serious things).
Does anyone know what happens to the numberless card when the card details expire. Do we get a new numberless card sent to us or do we just get new card details. If so, does this mean the same numberless card is with us indefinitely until we order a new one? How does this part work ? I asked them but haven’t received a response
Yes, mine’s sitting there with £1 in it. For the amount that I actually spend on credit/debit cards, it’s not worth the extra 0.5% cashback over my Amex card, really. Like you, I’m interested to see how it develops, though.
Are you connected via wifi or mobile data?
The app has been plain sailing since day dot for me.
If I’m using mobile data, specifically O2, it can be a drag but that’s because O2 suffer really bad with congestion all over Chester. Can’t even load Facebook or send a WhatsApp sometimes
I’d think they would send a new card out, as the, mind has gone blank, can’t remember what it is called, the 3 numbers on the signature strip changes every time you change/replace the card
Unless the card does not have a signature strip, which I highly doubt. Could be wrong, as my account was only opened yesterday so still waiting for my card
I can confirm the card doesn’t have a signature strip
So say my current expiry date on the card details in the app is 09/24 and I get new card details say next year and the new virtual card expiry is 09/25. Does the expiry date on the physical card also change? Does that mean the physical card lasts indefinitely?
I have a spare code, does anyone want to use it?
On WiFi
So these codes actually work even if the original recipient isn’t using it?
No, the physical card could in theory last indefinitely if it was Chip-only, as Chip and PIN transactions allow for “scripting” (re-programming) of the Chip.
In reality, it is unlikely they’d do this and since the card also has a magstripe as well (the magstripe actually contains the same card details as the Chip, in magnetic form) then it would be impossible as you couldn’t ever update the magstripe.
My guess is that the numberless card has a totally separate card number and expiry date to the virtual card, and probably a much longer validity - maybe even 10 years. But it will expire at some point and you would have to be sent a new one.
There was some discussion about this earlier in the thread and I missed it because I wasn’t keeping up with posting, but I imagine that’s the case.
Your Apple Pay, etc would be linked through tokenisation to the virtual card number; however tokenisation technology at the network level might also link your physical numberless card to your virtual details. Like how Transport for London know your “real” card number after having paid with Apple Pay, Chase may have told Mastercard that both sets of card details are linked to the same account. Not any different, really, to joint account holders each having a card on an account.
Then there are probably card controls along the lines of all cardholder not present transactions being declined on the numberless card, but all cardholder present transactions declined on the virtual card.
This combination should avoid a huge amount of misuse of stolen card details, if fraud ever happened or your card ever got cloned.
@Lonford had some thoughts on this a couple of days ago, so I’d be interested if you think that’s probably right or not?
Someone on this forum used a spare code and were able to sign up for an account
How long did everyone’s card take to arrive
Made my account on the 23rd and no card just yet
Opened account Wednesday, card arrived on Monday
Waitlist last Monday
Code and sign up Tuesday
Card arrived Friday.
