There’s a tech way they can verify its you calling from the app directly. Used to happen in my previous job on our side and show us you’d called via app or already cleared security.
I’m done with Chase. Truth be told, if they’d be signed up to CASS I’d have been gone a long time ago (and I suspect this is the reason they aren’t)
Easily the most unreliable bank I’ve experienced, a chocolate fireguard in the market. The app is archaic, the interest rates middling, the downtime simply unacceptable.
Can’t imagine I’m alone either
I vaguely recall a weekend outage long ago back in the prepaid card days, but otherwise nothing
They’ve finally taken the outage notice out of the app and the status page is showing all clear (barring registering being under maintenance, but I doubt it would be very busy anyway
)
£291 is good going. I’m just shy of £250, here’s mine:
I always dipped into or used up my Monzo Coin Jar, so to stick it out a year with Chase with no withdrawals from it is a plus for me. Think the 5% AER interest on it did it’s behaviour psychological magic on me and incentivised me not to use touch it.
How’s everyone else getting along? App issues aside.
I can’t take Chase seriously now I’ve seen that 9.
I raised a complaint by email about service outage (as I couldn’t make online transactions or transfer money to other accounts), and they’ve offered me £20 as a good will gesture. Maybe others can try that too if you were negatively affected
you know I didn’t even notice this until now. Luckily for them it’s a screen I rarely check tbh
Edit: it is interesting how people in this thread accentuate the negatives of Chase over any positives. Like 2 people have saved a decent amount of money passively from round ups (I’m sure more have), yet people care more about pointing out a number misalignment it seems.
More customers than usual are trying to reset their passcode at the moment. This means it might take longer than normal to have your ID documents and selfie checked. We’ve got all hands on deck to get through the queue as fast as possible. You don’t need to try to reset more than once.
To make this process faster for our customers, new customers won’t be able to join us at the moment. Please come back and try again later.
So this is why they were asking people not to reset their passcodes, it’s now having a knock-on effect on other people and on new signups
What a disaster.
Chase thoughts…
- Yes. I like it, despite the issues.
- Absolute shambles. I’m out.

I still like Chase, I personally like the app and think they have potential, but also think the level of outages is unacceptable (even though I only use the card for a petty cash daily spend card), and there’s no real excuses when you have the backing of a bank like JP Morgan.
I’ve saved a decent amount on roundups in Starling, and I don’t have to look at the 9.
Win win.
I’ve always liked that ligature.
I do intend on re-joining chase when able, I think the UI looks pretty ok and it seems to do what you need it to.
But, they really do need to sort it out with the stability if they want to be taken seriously in the market. It’s a bit like buying a brand new car only for the steering wheel to fall off while driving, continuously
The thing about this thread is all the complainers who apparently left Chase ages ago rear there ugly heads over and over. The thread has no balance in terms of positives versus negatives. For those folks who can’t bear Chase U.K. who’ve just turned one year old, that’s absolutely fine.
Nobody needs to mention benefits on defence.
And at the same token, don’t need to mention negatives to drown the positives.
After couple of days of outage outrage on here, I post a positive in response to someone else’s but it’s responded to in jest negatively.
My fault for forgetting I’m on a Monzo forum, so don’t mind me. Just the sooner the folks who are done with Chase U.K. like they say they are forget about them, the better for all.
I find this sort of attitude a little bizarre, frankly. So what if a plurality of posts about Chase are negative in the Chase discussion thread? Or positive, for that matter?
This isn’t like your local footy team forums when the club are doing badly and the fair-weather fans are having a moan. It’s a bank - the biggest in the world in fact - and any loyalties are severely misplaced.
It’s not all doom and gloom with Chase, but whether one is a “real Chase fan” or not, it’s not entirely strange to expect a certain negativity to be pervasive when customers literally can’t access their money. But, on the other hand, there have been periods of time when the discourse here has been overwhelmingly positive about Chase and that’s fine too. Normal even.
I think that’s a little unfair. There’s quite a lot of positive’s people say about chase in here too, especially around the roundups and savings. And I think there will be more, if chase can get their act together.
But I think the majority of criticism about chase has been when they’ve had an outage - since that happens quite a lot, it often come’s up.
Me personally, I don’t mind chase. I left, I wish I hadn’t, and I think I’ll rejoin. Does it mean it’s better/worse than Monzo. Who care’s, they are not football teams.
But I do think it’s fair to criticise a bank for what should be an absolute basic, functionality.
You appear to be taking it personally for some reason. It’s not personal, it’s perfectly natural that people don’t want to have to rely on a service that they can’t be certain will be available to them at the times that they need it.
If Chase works for you then that’s great - I’m happy that you’ve found a bank that gives you what you want, when you want.
I can’t believe people are criticising a bank that can’t seem to function as a bank! Scandalous.
I like Chase’s product offerings. Who wouldn’t like 1% cashback on everything and 1.5% easy access savings all in the same bank?
But the app is bad, compared to all my other banking apps. Slow, clunky, even the most basic of things, my available balance, is not up to date when I open the app, I have to wait for it to update or even pull down for it to work. Balances don’t update after I send a payment or transfer money within my Chase accounts, sometimes for a few seconds, sometimes again I have to pull down. As a result, balances show completely wrong after each transfer and before the next one.
