Cancelling / clearing split bill request

BEWARE _ DON’T DO THIS 5 TIMES IN ONE DAY

Instead of splitting a purchase between 3 people, I wanted to miss off one person but save myself having to work out what two thirds of the amount was.

So, instead of this person - I just used the facility to add a temp friend

Of course, this mucks up how much money I’m owed so I needed to scrap the split but couldn’t find a way to do it - but I have now :slight_smile:

I send the payment link request to myself (I use Signal and when I open it I’m given the choice of paying by Monzo or GPay (I’m on android)

So I just select GPay and go thru authorisation steps and I end up sending the money to myself :slight_smile:
Which clears the outstanding payment and balance is restored to the Force

Calculator is your friend.

You went through an awful lot of effort to avoid some basic maths!

Was Revels said, that’s a LOT of effort for a simple split.
Calculator, or if you don’t want to leave the Monzo app, use whatever assistant you have available (Google Assistant/Gemini, Alexa, ChatGPT, CoPilot, etc.).

OK Google, what is 25.32 divided by 3?
25.32 divided by 3 is 8.44

I wrote this post to let people know there is a way of effectively cancelling a bill split and keeping everything in order within Monzo

The original post had too much personal details about why I went down this route in the 1st place so I “simplified” it :slight_smile:

There were good reasons to do this - saving the maths effort was just humour :slight_smile:

Update - having now done 5 of these but the technique has stopped working

I suspect Monzo have just temporarily blocked me from doing this due to too many of them within a short timescale

I’l try again tomorrow and see what happens

Why are you doing so many?

Paying yourself is probably raising all of the flags.

I had reasons :slight_smile:

No a specialist has to look at your account, the first time it took a few hours second time it was done in minutes

Mind you it would be like city sightseeing £60 and then two payments of £20 from friends with tour as the reference… they might ask you what on earth you were doing

I’m not sure if you have to ask on the chat to get the ball rolling or if they do it in the background, for me the app acted totally normal but I couldn’t make a bank transfer and card payments were being declined

I’m not really sure “Don’t want to/can’t do maths” is a personal reason.

But now you’ve been blocked just work them out and do it the sensible way. Don’t make it look like you’re trying to badly launder money/

Possibly.

If you continue, will it be blocked for longer, or even permanently - possibly.
If there are concerns of abuse or nefarious purposes, could you get your account blocked or closed - possibly.

Please just use a calculator :sweat_smile:

And in case you’re wondering (because someone has asked before), I highly doubt a calculator feature will be added to the app

I think it’s more people using it for business

I’m still blocked from making any more the next day (as @jon1 said I would be)

Everthing else is still working fine with the account

I’m now onto Monzo via chat but they (or probably their AI bot) didn’t understand my messsage and thinks I want to increase some payment limit???

It took 2 hours to get 1st reply - lets see how long it takes for the second one :slight_smile:

Given the time lapsed, I don’t think.

A bot would take seconds.

Good point - the person reading my message musn’t have understood what my problem was

Chat is transferring me to someone else now but have said I’ll be back in another queue so it make take some time,

They apologised for me having the problem but I told them them it was entirely my own fault :slight_smile:

Update - still prohitibited from using Monzo.me to make payments (even using another card from another bank)

Chat says no estimate available for when this facility will be restored

It’s not a real problem as I don’'t need it and everything else still works.

Wish @jon1 had posted before I went on my spree! :slight_smile:
