Do any of the people who shave their faces with an electric razor have any recommendations for a relatively environmentally friendly razor?
My current Philishave is getting old and the cutting heads are incredibly expensive, so I think it’s time for a replacement.
I have a delicate patch of skin on my neck which is much worse in hot weather so I’m looking for a gentle caress rather than a close shave - in fact I don’t mind a little bit of stubble, as I’m only shaving every other day at the moment.
Does anyone particularly recommend foil shavers? I had one many decades ago (it was a Braun which took AA batteries), but didn’t really get on with it, but I guess they’ve improved.
I’d also like it to be as environmentally friendly as possible, by which I mean that the wearing parts should be reasonably priced and maybe it should use as little plastic as possible, but I’m not religious about that.
Anyway, if anyone has recommendations, I’d be glad to hear them.
Just recently replaced my ageing Panasonic shaver for a Braun Series 7. The Panasonic was an ES-LV67 and the rechargeable battery wasn’t holding as much charge and the replacement foil and cutter heads were expensive and despite them supposed to last 18 months it always flashed up for replacement after about 9 months
Never really got on with rotary shavers so stuck with foil and got the Braun Series 7 which also had the clean and charge base station to keep everything nice and clean. It was on offer at Argos for £100 but sadly has gone back up in price but they do go on offer quite regularly https://www.argos.co.uk/product/4199687 The braun clean and charge cartridges can be quite pricey and are plastic but I have read that you can buy cleaning fluid on Amazon if you don’t mind cleaning the used cartridge yourself
My neck is also sensitive hence never really got on with a wet blade shave and 4 weeks in with the Braun and not had any irritation and the replacement cutter heads are quite reasonable at around £30 which should last 18 months

Thanks.
I might take a look at some of the cheaper Brauns.
It must be about 40 years since I used a foil razor, though.
I’ve had the old version of one of these for a decade or something, for stubble and short beards it’s been great. Just use some rechargeable AA batteries for it.
It used to be a tenner from memory.

It certainly has the advantage of economy. I’ll look into it, thanks
I don’t personally shave that often with a permanently visible stubbeard™️(too long for stubble and a pathetic excuse for a beard simultaneously) - but despite that I’ve used various shavers over the years - foil, circular, hedge trimmer, etc. and after all of them, the Philips Oneblade 360 device works brilliantly for my current requirements. Not the ‘connected’ or ‘Pro’ versions though. I’m also not sure how it’d work for those good folks who want a shiny, baby-smooth finish*
This is one of those very-subjective question & experience threads - good luck finding the one that works best
It is pricey… (don’t pay full retail, they go on sale pretty regular) and so are the foil heads but they last a really, really long time. 18 months is the stated but I’ve managed to get a bit longer out of some. I use mine daily to shave my head, occasionally leaving it up to a week when I cba or have travel that I need to pack ultra light for and it handles a week of growth no problem. I thought if it could handle that type of growth on head hair it wouldn’t be gentle but it somehow is.
Best of both worlds and some of the best money I’ve ever spent.
Edit: I know you asked about electric but given your environmental slant I’d highly recommend considering a double edge safety razor. I went down a rabbit hole years ago of trying all the different blades you can get - there really is a lot of variety - and you can certainly get less aggressive blades for when your skin is more sensitive and switch to something more aggressive when all is well. Just a thought. If I wasn’t having to head shave daily I’d still be using my DE but I’m terrible for cutting my head with it.

We are; at least I am.
That’s a good shout. Seems to be a good match for my delicate skin. Thanks.
I think it was recommended here but not too sure anymore. I bought it during lockdown to shave my own hair, and still do.
I also use the clippers to trim my beard on its shortest setting. It doesn’t create a smooth look (obviously) but I hardly have that look and will use a razor for that.
They do have a beard trimmer but I’ve not tried it yet!
