I’ve recently switched from Revolut to Monzo here in Ireland, and I am absolutely loving the clean UI, the practical Pots, and the lack of “app noise”. You guys did an amazing job with the launch!
However, looking at the UK market, I’m incredibly jealous of their partnership with Greggs (the weekly free treat/coffee). As we all know, Ireland—and Dublin in particular—is brutally expensive right now. The cost of a simple daily coffee or a quick lunch adds up so fast.
If Monzo Ireland wants to truly conquer the market and beat Revolut here, bringing local reward partnerships (like a weekly coffee/treat at Insomnia, Butlers, Centra, or Dunnes Stores) would be an absolute bombshell.
People in Dublin would literally switch their main accounts to Monzo on day one just for a perk like that. Is there any roadmap or plan to introduce Irish rewards/perks soon?

Absolutely! I think life everywhere is expensive right now, the cost of living is crazy.
But that’s exactly why a weekly treat would make such a massive difference here in Dublin. When a simple daily latte easily sets you back €5, having a bank that helps you save on those little everyday moments feels like a huge win.
Fingers crossed the Monzo Ireland team is feeling the Dublin coffee prices too and brings us some local perks soon

Thing is, Gregg’s is pretty cheap and cheerful in UK. We don’t really have anything comparable here that might fall into an acceptable price point, and not nationally either.
There was talk / rumour some time back that Gregg’s might enter the Irish market. Sadly not though (so far )

The perk is a paid perk, I don’t think it’ll actually save you much money, especially as you probbaly aren’t going to find a Greggs priced coffee or sausage roll there
I see your point, but the paid perks usually come with travel/phone insurance too. If you get a €5 coffee for free every week, that’s €20 a month back in your pocket. The perk literally pays for the subscription.
Thanks for breaking down the pricing! Honestly, even if it’s a paid plan like Perks for €7 or €8 a month, it would still be 100% worth it here. If you get a weekly coffee in Dublin plus a cinema ticket, you easily get your money back in the first two weeks. Hopefully they adapt these tiers for Ireland soon
iirc Greggs is available on the perks plan (so only about £7 a month, not anything near 20eur) and it comes with some other things (some of which are UK specific, such as railcards (discount on rail fares), Uber One, a monthly free cinema ticket).
Not sure how much of that is recreatable. I imagine the price would need to be more in Ireland to offer something equivalent, as Greggs is definitely providing Monzo with discounts in exchange for their customer volume and is already insanely cheap to begin with by UK standards. It’s part of why they’ve been doing so well, they respect the wallet of the working man.
Fair point! Greggs is definitely uniquely cheap. But even if Monzo has to charge a bit more here for an Irish
‘Perks’ tier-say €8 or €10 a month—it could still work if they partner with local networks.
A lot of people already pay €9.99 for Revolut Premium, so if Monzo offers a similar tier with a weekly coffee from a local machine (like Centra or Circle K) plus standard insurance, the math would still make a lot of sense for Dubliners.
Let’s hope their product team gets creative with the Euro expansion!
Hopefully they can work something out - I know that in other European markets people are a lot more open to paid accounts.
I imagine that might translate into a slightly worse deal than the UK (where banking is free and you really have to fight to get someone to pay a subscription for it), but hopefully still better than what you can get now in Ireland.
It’s not about the coffee being gourmet, it’s about the daily savings! When Dublin prices are reaching €10 for a coffee and a treat, a cheap, decent caffeine fix on the go is a lifesaver for the wallet.
