Hi all, the next edition of our Monzonaut Ask Me Anything (AMA) series is with Elaine Deehan, our Country Manager for Monzo Ireland!
She’ll be popping in and out from next week to answer your questions, so get asking!
Meet Elaine
Elaine Deehan is the Country Manager for Monzo Ireland, leading its launch as a fully regulated bank. She has spent the past few years building the Irish operation from the ground up—from navigating the Central Bank licence application to shaping the product and getting Monzo into the hands of its first local customers. Her ongoing focus is ensuring the bank feels genuinely local, relevant, and built for Ireland.
Before Monzo, Elaine worked across banking and fintech at Citi, AIB, Sentenial, CurrencyFair, and Starling Bank, where she also led their Irish expansion. She is deeply passionate about making financial services simpler, fairer, and more human.
Originally from Moate, Co. Westmeath, Elaine keeps community, family, and a bit of craic close to her heart. Outside of work, she juggles life with her three kids, plays party tunes on the piano, listens to podcasts, and attempts to find a healthy balance while building something meaningful and magical in Ireland.
Hi Elaine. When can we expect Bank of Ireland accounts to be available to be added to Monzo Business accounts? The use of their logo in the app would suggest soon but it would be great to have an ETA
What’s stopping Monzo from being a true replacement for AIB in Ireland today?
When will Irish customers get cheque and cash lodgement options, or is Monzo intentionally leaving those behind?
Traditional banks offer loans and green finance when will Monzo offer EV/solar lending considering current crisis all are behind renewable energy.. instead of just spending tools?
With Irish bank fees rising, (aib - monthly 6eu from July 1)will Monzo compete with market-leading savings rates, or stay behind incumbents?
Is Ireland a serious growth market for Monzo or just an extension of the UK product?
If someone moves salary, savings and day-to-day banking to Monzo, what can’t they do yet?
Do you see Monzo disrupting Irish banks, or ultimately becoming just another digital add-on account?
Hi Elaine, since EBS doesn’t have an app to manage their current account and logging into their online banking through a phone web browser isn’t convenient, perhaps there’s a plan to add an option to link EBS and also Avant credit card (Bankinter Ireland) accounts on Monzo? Can Monzo Ireland currently show pending future direct debit transactions? This is a very handy function AIB bank has, but I’m considering of leaving them soon and moving to Monzo. I’d also like to see Monzo Ireland offering credit card, loan and mortgage products. Thank you.
When will Monzo Ireland be releasing upgraded plans like what’s available in the UK? I have Revolut Ultra and would like to consider other options, but there really aren’t any with IE IBANs.
How do you think the rollout in Ireland has gone and are you seeing much appetite for the product?
Also, maybe not Irish related specifically - but how quickly do you think we’ll see other EU flags in Monzo’s garden and will any of those efforts be started from Dublin?
I don’t see any response here from Elaine. Kinda wondering the point of the post here now. My question is when the switching to monzo functionality will be available? Waiting to switch from traditional Irish banks. Thanks!
