This is a dangerous idea to commit a never to. Because I’d have been along with one of my 1p bets. I think they’ll return in some form some day. They’re on the US roadmap as a buy once proposition, and @rossmonzo seemed to suggest that the door for metal cards remains ajar at the very least.
So I’d never say never to this one.
There is a demand for them (as Revolut demonstrates). And they make more sense than plastic with respect to the environment if you execute them right. The problems that made them marmite for some folks are pretty simple to solve (in theory). I suspect the stopgap for premium customers sidegrading to one of the new plans dissuades dissenting voices, but once those cards start expiring, I think we’ll see more and more posts like this if they’re not back by then.
