Big few weeks coming up for Monzo - guesses?

I would suggest if they said no overdraft fees then they intend to offer overdraft

Though I guess technical they could say there are no overdraft fees if they never offer them but that would be a little cheeky

Meant no overdraft fees*

Wouldn’t it be a thing if Monzo floored Simple in the US, after the ‘Safe-to-Spend’ debacle

I like the thinking; “It’s OK to have a pop at us regarding a phrase and we’ll back down. Then we’ll invade your market place and take your business”. Admirable.

Right, that’s one thing sorted.

So when do we find out the rest of the announcements?

Being acquired by Amazon/ Google/ Apple for 10 billion of your Earth pounds?

If it’s just expansion into the US then it’s very anticlimactic :-1:

Still baffles me that we hear from all the news outlets first before our own bank tells us too :exploding_head:

The blog came out at the same time as the media. Earlier there were a few ‘rumoured to be announcing later today’ stories with no real info.

Not sure what you expected, the tweet was about big news for Monzo and the US launch is huge for Monzo as a business

I guess with all the speculation on here I kind of expected a big awesome new feature. Then when it was revealed I selfishly thought that it doesn’t benefit me at all and I got giddy for no reason

I’ll be happy for Monzo though and will keep it positive

I think the launch in the US will be beneficial for us too. They will need to build must have features for the American market and possibly release it for us later on.

We have just got access to the US market - a huge market that could literally catapult Monzo to £10 billion, 20 billion, £100 billion+ valuation and help create jobs for thousands of people and really help shake up finances on a global scale

And we get “very anticlimactic”!

Yep. I gave my reason above  You might have missed it if you were typing at the same time

Agreed - massive. I lived in NY for many years while (thankfully) retaining links to UK banking. If Monzo would have been around in those times it would have changed things. But it wasn’t and here we are. This could be a huge banking/personal finance game changer (for both US customers and UK investors) and most of us here are part of it.

I feel lucky to be involved even at the tiniest of tiny level :grinning:

I am sceptical of any British company’s chances of success in the US. There have been many instances of our companies getting too big for their boots and marching over there expecting the red carpet but ending up fleeing with their tails between their legs.

I think Monzo will buck the trend though. If you look at who is betting hundreds of millions of dollars on them it is the smart money in the US and not dumb money from the UK which has often been the case in the past.

They already have huge influencers on board without stepping a foot in the country. Y Combinator, Stripe, Michael Moritz
 naming a few.

And the market is absolutely huge. No one is saying they have to dominate the market and defeat Goldman Sachs and JP Morgan. If they get 1% market share that will be a huge success.

Great news
really look forward to seeing it unravel.
