Best place in Europe to travel to in February

does anyone have any recommendations on places in Europe to travel to also how does the 90 days within any 180-day rolling period work

Cabo Roig Spain or Krakow Poland. Both different experiences but both very nice

Having once been to Kraków in February, be aware that Kraków can be really cold in February! Lovely city though.

The 90-in-180 rule is fairly straightforward: grab a calendar. Start from the day you’re planning to leave the EU, then go back 180 days, counting up the number of those days you’ve spent in the EU. If it’s 90 or over, then you may need to replan - either by shortening your trip or starting it later.

If it’s easier for you, you can stick all the dates of your EU trips into the calculator here and it’ll work it out for you

Or, for those of us in NI, grab your Irish passport and ignore that rule

indeed! I’m embracing the fact that my dad was born in Ireland.

A couple of years ago my mum was warned by a border guard that she was getting quite close to her 90 days – but as she was travelling with my dad, his free movement rights extend to her too. Provided they’re travelling together, I think she shouldn’t even need to get her passport stamped when crossing in/out of the Schengen area.

He needs to be exercising his free movement rights for her not to be stamped in. My OH had an EU permanent resident card issued by the UK so didn’t need to drag me along, until brexit of course.

That said, if they are travelling together, then the 90 day limit can’t be applied to her either. There would be some discussion with the border guard potentially, but they can’t reject the ‘family member of a union citizen’ (that’s the phrase to use).

Worth noting is that, if she needs one, they are required to issue a Schengen visa free on the spot to family members of EU citizens. Colleague with Chinese wife had to do that as she’s a visa national.
