£20 cashback at Morrisons :tada:, fell nicely with a larger than usual shop :+1:t3:. My partner has cash back too, so once we have maxed out Morrisons we might try shopping at Sainsbury’s… :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Apols if this has been mentioned, I can’t find it in the thread. Is cashback awarded on a Flex payment?

I imagine this is a large part of what monzo are testing and monitoring.

I’m sure they are hoping to be able to demonstrate how they can influence where customers spend, in order to secure better offers for us and better commission for themselves.

Here’s where I am with the cashback pilot.

Round 1: Big success. Monzo influenced WHERE I spent, but not WHAT I spent.

The £20 cap and the inclusion of several supermarkets meant that I shifted my big shops to those offering cashback. I didn’t need to spend money I didn’t otherwise intend to as I figured my normal spending would be enough.

Round 2: Looking like a letdown.

My supermarket shopping success of the first round can’t be repeated now the offers are single use. So either I have to plan and execute a big shop to maximise the cashback (and end up with loads or cupboard items and long-life staples but less fresh food), or I try the gift card trick. Both add more mental load to taking advantage of the offers.

In reality, what will probably happen is that I keep putting off using any offer until “the right time”, and then it expires before I get the chance.

It’s pure optics but I think this would have landed better if it was the other way around.

Perhaps it’s better that the optically-poor ordering surfaced problems with the “one use” approach more viscerally though?

My issue has been fixed:

Thank you for sharing that

I just got my first cashback transaction today (:tada:) and was looking at the category selector on iOS. I was able to select one of the pre-defined categories and it appeared to update as expected, but I was not able to see or select any of my custom categories.

Would be great if this could be supported in future…

Bought something at Curry’s today, didn’t receive my cash back. Used the “cashback explained” function to speak to in app chat and they have no idea what I’m talking about. I keep asking to speak to the cashback team but they’re not listening.

They’re instead about to pass me onto the borrowing team because I used my Flex card.

@iankent please can you help?

I bought something at Curry’s and it was classed as a “pending payment” in app , my cashback came through the day afterwards in the afternoon

Merchant names need to be a lot lot better for this to work on a big scale.

I’ve never been that bothered about it, if it’s in the right ball park I never felt that it mattered, I know some wanted to report every single last detail.

I’ve just spent at Iceland but the merchant name is Iceland and the store number/location appended on the end. To me that doesn’t need correcting, maybe it looks cleaner if it says Iceland but meh. Not worth the time and effort to fix (for me or Monzo) but now it has an actual financial benefit to it being correct, well it’s already correct but not enough to get the cashback.

So either the tolerance needs to change, so that “Iceland 1234 Location” is acceptable, the same as the Curry’s Bradford one above.

Or

Monzo get a lot of man hours into merchant correction so that every single last detail is fixed, and quickly, and people get the cashback they should.

I wonder if no-one from the cashback team is available today so your query got punted to the next available agent regardless of their specialist knowledge.

Given the eclectic range of merchants on the current list, perhaps there should be an award for the first forum user to notch up cashback from all 17 on offer.

My creativity is at a low ebb this afternoon, otherwise I’d try to come up with a punchy name for said award, but I’m confident others will be able to come up with something apposite.

:moneybag:

Thought it was worth a mention that this cashback offer will stack with Cheddar & Airtime Rewards. Cheddar has Sainsburys (1%*), Airtime Rewards has Argos (2%) and Greggs (1%, 3% for spend over £7, in-store only).

Makes it effectively 6% back at Sainsbury’s, 8% back at Argos & 11%/13% back at Greggs.

*This is a bonus offer for the first week of signing up, then to keep it you need to refer people (every 2 people gives you 30 days of the offer).

This really confused me , I got a small refund from Sainsbury and it showed 5% cashback underneath it

Making me think the cashback on my Sainsbury’s shop was underpaid

Hi @iankent, I filled out the form for the Cashback Trial and haven’t received any comms or there’s nothing in the app. Is there anything I need to do? Thanks

Arghh! For flips sake… We spent money at Dunelm yesterday., Somewhere we go to about once a year if that… And we missed cashback as I hadn’t added the offer!

Probably my fault for overthinking it! It’s a one time offer and my logic would have been not to enable it and have it trigger on a small purchase :pensive:

Will have to rethink my strategy… but after missing out it does feel that Monzo could do more in these situations… maybe a retrospective opportunity to apply cashback if you have spent and not applied an offer? That would really be a magic moment! :tada:

It’s not a big deal for me, but it’s one of the big bears that I have with Amex … and now with Monzo …
