I’ve been a Monzo Plus customer for a while, and I’m increasingly concerned about how Plus members are being treated compared to newer tiers.
It feels like we’re no longer getting access to new perks, and some of the restrictions don’t make much sense. For example, I’m enrolled in the 1p Savings Challenge, but I don’t get the 3.50% AER because I’m not on Extra, Perks, or Max. This is confusing, as Plus customers do get 3.50% AER on regular pots—so by using the challenge, I’m actually losing out.
I pay £5 a month for Plus, yet it seems like lower-cost tiers are getting newer features while Plus members are left behind. I understand Monzo may want customers to move onto newer plans, but those of us who were grandfathered into Plus still represent thousands of loyal users. It would be good to see that loyalty recognised rather than overlooked.
Another example is Billsback, which isn’t available to Plus members. This trend makes me worry that more features will continue to bypass us, and honestly, I’m now considering cancelling my subscription.
Could Monzo consider aligning perks across tiers, or at least ensuring that Plus customers aren’t disadvantaged by features like the 1p Challenge? I think that would go a long way toward showing loyalty to long‑standing members.
Yes, Plus and Premium customers are being left behind. Plus and Premium are classed as legacy products so won’t get many (if any) updates going forward. If you want the new stuff, you need to move to one of the new plans.
Why would Monzo still update and support a product they no longer offer?
I understand that Plus and Premium are now classed as legacy products, but I think it’s worth pointing out that many of us are still paying monthly fees for these plans. Even if Monzo no longer sells them to new customers, existing subscribers continue to contribute revenue. That’s why it feels unfair when updates and perks are withheld — especially when lower-cost tiers like Extra and Perks are getting new features. I don’t expect every new perk to be retrofitted to legacy plans, but there should be a baseline of fairness so that paying customers aren’t disadvantaged compared to newer, cheaper tiers. If Monzo wants people to migrate, it would be better to make the transition attractive (e.g., offering incentives or aligning core perks) rather than leaving legacy customers feeling neglected.
You kind of contradicted yourself there. You said that legacy customers feel “neglected” as they are not getting new features, but also say that the new plans need to be attractive to get you to transition.
By only adding new features to newer plans, this adds value to them compared to the legacy plans, hoping to encourage legacy customers to transition over to them.
I think the clearest example of why Plus customers feel overlooked is the new 1p Savings Challenge. Monzo made this feature available to Plus members, but excluded the 3.50% AER — even though Plus customers already get 3.50% AER on their regular pots.
That creates a strange inconsistency: by using the challenge, Plus members actually lose out compared to just saving in a normal pot. It’s not about expecting every new perk to be retrofitted, but about avoiding situations where paying customers are disadvantaged by design.
If Monzo no longer wants to support legacy plans, then continuing to charge for them while withholding features that align with what we already pay for feels unfair.
They didn’t want to force people off them, it’s the customers choice.
They don’t have to apply the same rates to all products, either move to a new plan or, quite essentially hush up and put up.
Your solution is simple, switch to Extra, have better benefits for less money, Perks for more benefits and free Greggs and railcard; and Max for insurances.
I’m perfectly happy with Plus. If you feel differently, that’s completely fine, but it’s worth remembering you can’t speak for everyone.
That said, I do expect they’ll eventually phase out Plus and push us to either upgrade or cancel. It’s not really sustainable for them to keep a legacy plan running in the background indefinitely.
I’m surprised they have left Plus and Premium running. There can’t be that much benefit to Monzo to keep both of these legacy products running alongside their supported paid-for offerings.
Plus and Premium are different products. I would not expect those products to be developed further when they’re not sold any more and not developed any more.
I think a more interesting question would be what is it that keeps you on Plus and what is it about the newer products that hasn’t made you change to them? You seem v interested in the new product, so what is it that is holding you back from upgrading to them?
Their development team will be begging the product team to drop them because it’ll be adding technical debt to the app that they have to keep maintaining.
