Apple Wallet to integrate with Open Banking APIs

Updating was real time for when, when I pay via Monzo anyway - near instant update in Wallet too - not sure about HSBC as I rarely use that card

Sounds like it might be faster than the Chase app

Every time. But not every time.

There’s definitely a limit at which point if you reopen it won’t fetch again. But I opened 20 mins ago. Closed it. Moved money out a pot. Reopened just now and it updated. :+1:t2:

If you’re on android, maybe.

Amazing! Thanks for testing that!

Yep, chase is pretty instant for me these days. Not noticed any delays with balance updates for a while now relative to how fast Monzo has always been. They’re on par now in my experience.

With Monzo it’s pretty much instantaneous once you select the card in wallet.

It tells you how to up to date it is too. I.e. updated ‘1 minute ago’ and then refreshes to ‘now’

This makes sense for the times you don’t have a data connection.

What would be even better is if you could Force Touch the wallet app icon on your home screen and it tells you the balances of each card.

I think this is down to privacy. I’d rather the cashier or any other prying eyes (i.e when you pay at a TfL reader) did not see the balance of your card considering you’re effectively handing it over to be fully visible.

Unless you mean before you verify with faceID and hold near the reader?

So initially I thought it was a manual operation.

But having used my card a bit more (physical) I just opened the wallet and…

Nothing, then it automatically updated. It was a little delayed but it got there.

Side note: the maps accuracy seems to have degraded, for me at least. It used to be pretty accurate, now it never is.

your GPS may just need recalibration - fine for me

I gat 3M error accuracy

No it’s not that. It’s just fully out, and it never used to be and isn’t on maps.

For example one McDonalds was in Adelaide and a local bar was in a town about 50 miles away.

That just points to where the payment is processed, no?

It used to be accurate, so I’m not too sure what’s changed there.

Still not entirely sure what the point of the balance is, unless they’re going to release a widget which show your balance?

It’s for the future, not for the present. :soon:

This, with your main card, and balance underneath on my Home Screen would be amazing.

Revolut had a home screen widget on Android and I really wish I still had.

Pretty sure they have a widget on iOS too, don’t they?

They do, but not for balance view. Only some recent used app things:

I wish the Monzo widget worked on the Home Screen, shame it’s limited to the widget stack on the Today View page.

Because, like many things at Monzo, it’s a MVP and never improve thing.

What if you’ve lost your device?

Do you mean you think people would be happy using it for analytics and budgeting even if that data won’t transfer over to new device, or would there be a mechanism to transfer it?

I imagine it backs up via iCloud. If not the data itself but the connections and settings. And then you re-authenticate, it all gets downloaded again and boom, done.
