The free stuff only usually works for new customers only.
Says new and returning customers on the receipt.
Returning I assume means āno active subscription currentlyā
Iāve had one for over a year, no issues with quality or durability and I have done all sorts with it.
Existing customers can use them too. You donāt always get the same duration though. Only downside is theyāre not compatible with Apple One.
Blimey, Apple really are tight with their storage.
How much of a quality of life upgrade would it be to go from M2 / 8GB to M3 / 16GB?
Does the M3 do multiple monitors? I am quite happy with the M2 still, so not sure I want to jump on this.
I would personally wait for M4 (as I did with my Mac Mini upgrade).
M1 > M2 > M3 were all quite incremental bumps. But M4 is more of a step chance (performance per GHz).
External display support is also improved.
Not as much as you might think
Itās also worth noting that MacOS support for the new M4 display controller is buggy.
I have the MBP M4 Pro with multiple external displays and itās not a great experience.
Hoping the next MacOS update sorts it. Apple really do let themselves down at times when it comes to implementing new hardware with MacOS.
Overall, Iām still happy with my purchase.
What issues are you having?
I have an AW3225QF and a LG DualUp connected. At least once a day when I wake up my Mac, only one of them will come on. I have to then unplug the DisplayPort cable on one of them, in order for the other one to jump into action. I then plug it back in and both will work fine - until next time.
Iāve tried both via my CalDigit TS4 dock and direct to the MBP, using various connection methods and cable types - same outcome, so itās not my dock.
Occasionally, one of them will just decide to reduce refresh rate, for no apparent reason. I run the DualUp at 60Hz and my AW at 120Hz.
Iāve spoken to CalDigit support, as I thought it was my dock at first, and they have confirmed they are hearing the same from numerous M4 owners and that Apple are apparently going to fix it via a MacOS update in the near future.
It doesnāt seem to impact all owners. It seems to depend on various factors, as youād expect.
Itās a little disappointing when you drop almost Ā£3k on a laptop though, to say the least.
Iām sure they will fix it. Itās still very new.
Would annoy me as my Studio sits behind the monitors, getting to the ports is a stretch (literally).
Biggest issue Iāve always had with multiple monitors going back to having 3 on my 2015 MBP is that macOS consistently puts windows on the incorrect monitor when itās woken up, or even when itās unlocked. Iām very particular with which monitor certain windows are on and itās frustrated me for years and years.
Same. That still frustrates me.
I also remember when Apple pushed out a MacOS update that broke DSC support. Those of us with high refresh, high resolution displays were dependent on DSC.
It took them an age to fix it, as it didnāt impact enough customers for them to prioritise.
To be fair, the M4 chips have a brand new display controller design. The design shares no similarity with M3, M2 or M1, so I can forgive a few initial issues with MacOS support.
Sounds good to me.
Sounds dubious to me.
Not saying itās true, but if it is Iāll happily welcome it.
Guess work for clicks. Gimme!
I have had this issue for months, if not years now, and no idea how to fix it.
Whenever I AirPlay from my phone to the AppleTV (with two HomePods as speakers) only the audio plays and the video continues on my phone.
I have tried restarting, toggling AirPlay off, but nothing works. All other devices AirPlay fine.
