Apple in Fintech (Apple Card, Open Banking etc…)

i make the same mistake of buying a case when my phone is brand new, then removing it and going cashless in few weeks, using glass protection and those clear stickers on the back

Hmm - looks like developer access to NFC on iPhone is coming with 18.1 (in other regions from Europe).

I really hope this doesn’t lead to every bank and card trying to setup their own direct access ‘NFC payment’ app and for them to drop supporting Apple Pay.

Can definitely see Tesco trying to use this…

Android had this in the early days of Android Pay didn’t they? I seem to remember Amex (or was it Barclaycard?) skipped Android Pay and made you make their app the default to tap and pay. They gave up on that in the end, maybe because Google removed the ability to swap digital wallets, I’m not sure.

Hopefully nobody is thinking of going back to that.

Actually, I suspect what might happen would be not an individual bank trying to leave the ‘Apple Pay’ ecosystem and go alone, but more likely someone like Curve, who have already announced they’re working on it in the EU, trying to muscle in on the ‘Wallet’ market.

Although not sure how competitive they could make their offering if Apple still insist on taking their own cut of the transaction.

If Curve launch it though, I can see maybe Paypal swopping in and buying them up.

I’m sure someone mentioned some credit cards work now?

Barclaycard Forward does now work on Google Pay can confirm

You’ll only ever be able to have one default wallet app, so I can’t see how an individual bank could be that app. It would be far too limiting. I have a feeling that once a bank supports Apple Pay (which they all do), withdrawing support would be far too damaging for them to contemplate. It would definitely result in instant account closure from me.

Yeah, I think that’s the thing. If people have never had a feature, loads won’t know what they’re missing. But observationally, Apple/Google Pay seem to be used for the vast majority of transactions in shops and buses. Removing this feature will definitely be noticed.

Could this help bring it to the uk?

I’m slightly confused by this apparent feature of the current US Apple Card:

JPMorgan has also reportedly made clear that it wants to change “key components” of the Apple Card. This includes eliminating the current billing system, where all cardholders receive their statement at the beginning of the month. As previously reported, this has led to customer service and logistical challenges for Goldman Sachs.

Isn’t that fairly standard for credit cards to generally send out statements at the same time for their customers?

Here it’s a billing cycle which can be almost any day of the month.

Unless in this example, everything 1-31st is generated the 1st of the following month, which would be weird.

A lot are just when you joined or there about. All credit cards I’ve had have different statement periods.

Not showing for me yet. Is this one step closer to the Apple Card here in the UK?

Is there a good app/way for adding other things to Apple Wallet?

I have a staff pass, a few attraction style passes etc that I’d like to add but also have the picture. The ones I’ve seen you can add the QR code but not a picture of the front of the card.

Can Stocard do that? I think it lets you add your own card and passes although I’ve not used for years so no idea what its current form is like?

(actually - ignore this. Just went to reinstall Stocard to check and saw the message that it’s part of Klarna now and has been moved into that app).

Try the ios app Pass4Wallet, it allows the use of custom images and colours

:backhand_index_pointing_up:This. Barcodes is thoughtfully designed and easy to use.

Thank you for this, super useful to have the Morrisons card on here. I’ve been searching for a photo of it and scanning that for months because I didn’t want it in my wallet app
