I’m not sure how “green” it is. From the picture in the article, Apple are using a lot of unnecessary packing for the return card.
Neither are they the first card firm to do this

With NatWest’s product also being discontinued within about a year of launch, I wonder if a big part of it is BNPL not being very “fashionable”, and realised it wasn’t the sort of market they wanted to be in.
Happy Birthday!
From the verge:
In its place, Apple says that users will be able to apply for “installment loans” from credit cards, debit cards, and lenders when checking out with Apple Pay later this year.
One of my gripes with Apple is their US-only features, so this seems like it’ll be better.
I kinda hope this move means they’ve finally found a partner to launch Apple Pay Cash in the UK
This is the first time (that I can recall) that Apple have publicly expressed any type of partnerships or communication with UK banks, so it’s not unreasonable to interpret such a thing as a step in the right direction no?
And judging from the iOS 18 announcement from WWDC i think its safe to assume Apple Pay Cash isnt going anywhere lol
also that animation is beautiful
I do actually agree that we don’t need it tho, unlike America the quality of our banking system/apps is far superior in comparison. Would still be really nice to have the ability to send/request money via iMessage or tap our phones together regardless of what bank we have
They announced that they will be offering BNPL from select banks (HSBC/Monzo for UK) as the replacement for Apple Pay Later. That’ll be more than just any old API, there will have to be talks and discussions between Apple and the participating banks. It’s really not unreasonable to think open communications between Apple and UK banks could lead to Apple Pay Cash later down the line no?
Also theres like a huge difference between asking for Apple Card and Apple Pay Cash. Apple Card is a credit card, Apple Pay Cash a venmo/cashapp clone lmfao
How is saying open communication between Apple and UK banks could possibly lead to a feature that has been missing for years in the uk reading too much into it
It ain’t like i’m saying this WILL happen, i said it could
regardless its a move in the right direction for feature parity between US and UK
let a boy dream
there is too much negativity in here today, have you all had your morning coffee yet? Can’t a boy dream anymore
Not with me! I just didn’t really understand how it was working, given the very little info given out about it. But I appreciate you clarifying it. And to keep it in one thread.
Speculation shouldn’t be shot down as mis-information, not that I’m saying this is what you are trying to do. I appreciate the aim to prevent speculation from being presented as fact, but I don’t think anyone was trying to do that?
It’s not that i don’t understand, but misinformation would would be me saying apple pay cash is coming to the uk, not i hope it does hahahaha
honestly, i’m just a UI/UX whore and i really really really wanna tap my phone and see that animation in-person
This is fair, it does feel like a game of whispers considering apple haven’t posted a single thing on newsroom about it and all the articles have come from a very small quote from 9to5mac
Just let me be delulu, its been so long since we’ve gotten any momentum in the uk
But no official announcement in regards to ending Apple Pay Later on newsroom which is odd, its just a small quote on a 9to5mac article
Was it a Shopify or other large platform based shop? I imagine these big shop platforms would put the work in to integrate rather than most individual retailers. I imagine they wouldn’t see the point.
