I can see a large market for a durable case/cover/wallet for these cards and people would buy them too.

There’s one thing that would need to be fixed before the physical card could be used in the UK with merchants (like Tesco) that have a £30 limit even with Apple pay: it would need to have a PIN number!
If cards don’t have a PIN the terminal simply won’t ask or you can press enter on a blank PIN and it’ll process just fine.
One of my MasterCards from overseas functions like this as PIN verification is turned off.
Edit: just to add it’s not a Chip & Signature Card it’s chip only. Entering any pin of prompted will also be approved.
That’s interesting, thanks. Is there any security risk if the card gets stolen and used before it’s frozen?
Yea of course but that’s the bank’s liability not mine - part of the Mastercard guarantee or something I remember reading. In the card servicing online there’s the option to manage your PIN settings (ie whether it’s required or not). You are forced to set a PIN to enable ATM withdrawals though even if you still want it disabled for purchase.
That’s good news. It looks as if that will also apply to Apple Card as they say they will take responsibility for fraudulent transactions. Thanks for the clarifications.

Here’s my storage solution for the Monzo metal card when it releases:

FIts in the bag, nice-and-light, perfect protection!
Oh. I’d forgotten all about Apple Card.
I wouldn’t hold your breath.
I heard in the Daring Fireball podcast a while ago that it’s very unlikely to come the UK. We have regulations like Open Banking that Apple won’t want to be part of, because it means they can’t control the whole experience, which they love to do.
That and the interchange cap, preference to contactless cards over mobile wallets and debit cards being much more popular for credit cards.
(credit cards are used more for big items for section 75 or 0% intrest to allow it to be payed for over time)
Unless they go the Curve route and enjoy all that lovely data, via Open Banking. Apple like to take a failing idea and make it work.
Fingers crossed. I don’t expect much in the way of rewards though!
I already have amex so i’m not interested but if it’s no FX fee it would be a great UK credit card for travel.
Interchange cap will probs make the cashback 0.2% apple pay 0.1% Physical Card maybe
Don’t think it’s been mentioned on here but Apple was granted the Trademark for Apple Card here in the UK last January… maybe delayed due to COVID if they’re planning on releasing it to us?
I’d imagine Apple want the trademarks for any of their names everywhere, regardless of whether they plan to release it.
