App Evolution (new look Monzo app): Feedback Megathread šŸ“£

So my upcoming transfers and direct debits are now showing.

I have 25 upcoming lines on the Overview screen plus three three latest transactions.

I’ve lost track of the plan. Was it to consolidate the future transactions somehow?

Once this bad boy gets switched to true, balance will be restored:

I’m slowly but surely coming around to the new overview… 2 things that would make things perfect (for me)…

Please re-add the gestures for navigating away from pot views / returning to the overview!

Please let me shuffle around ā€˜Activity’, ā€˜Pots’ and ā€˜Other accounts’ sections!

In the Activity card/section, I’d really like to see the activity of the other accounts as well, or at least the ability to enable it.

+1 on this, I’d like to be able to change the order of the sections

Yeah I’d definitely like a gesture for getting out of viewing a pot, and not just have to rely on the X

I don’t see why it can’t be a pull down gesture the same as how you can get rid of the activity feed once you’re in it?

I have the 14 pro max so reaching for that X at the top left is a bit of a pain. Connected accounts having their own cards at the top and customisable layouts is still top of my wish list though, I can deal with the pot X’s for now

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to drop in and give a little update on where we’re at when it comes to testing the new Home screen.

Last week we went live with the first half of our final pre launch experiment (dun dun dunnnn) where we started enrolling some customers into the new Home screen as soon as they signed up for Monzo. Today we’re going live with the second half where we’re enrolling a group of existing customers into the new Home screen.

We want to make sure that these existing customers get off on the right foot with the new Home screen so we’ll be showing them a couple of intro screens and then giving two layout options for them to choose from.

If you’ve already switched on the new Home screen via Labs, you’ll be shown the same screens and will also have to select one of the layout options. Sorry if this messes with any customisation you’ve already done, but we couldn’t avoid this one. Of course, you’ll be able to re-customise to get your app back just how you like it. While we’re in Labs, I can’t promise that this won’t happen again but we’ll avoid disruption where we can :broken_heart:

If you’re yet to give the new Home screen a go, you might be included in our test group. And if you’re not included in the test, but you think it might be time to try out the new Home screen, head over to Labs to toggle it on yourself.

Doing proper experimentation is really important to us before we fully roll out the new Home screen to make sure that we know how these changes affect the way customers use the app, and are not making it harder for customers to complete important tasks. Plus the more customers that try out the new Home screen, the more feedback we get, the more bugs we can spot and fix, and the better we can make the experience before the full roll out.

The squad and I love checking this forum to see what you all think of the work we’re doing. We really appreciate all of the feedback that you’ve given so far - we read everything so please keep your thoughts coming!

Hi. Looks great. The ā€˜makeover’ prompt appeared for me just now (I had the new view enabled in labs). Unfortunately, I wasn’t expecting it and somehow dismissed it. Not sure if that will affect anything?

The ā€˜left over until’ doesn’t work for me due to the way I use my Monzo account.

My Personal Account is always close to zero as I have a Bills pot and a Spending Money pot.

I use my Flex account for spending and then pay it off from my Spending Money pot (usually the same day).

Apart from that I love everything else you’ve done!

Just flicked to the new format and it’s definitely far more polished than it previously was.

One thing I noticed was showing connected credit card ā€œavailable to spendā€ balances. I dragged my Flex out of the pinned accounts to sit alongside my connected credit cards. In the list, Monzo Flex shows how much is available/unused from my Flex limit. But it doesn’t do so for third party credit cards, which seems inconsistent. Would be nice to see the ā€œavailable to spendā€ balance for all connected credit cards.

I’m surprised Monzo are at that stage. I’ve now got to the point were I have it switched on but it still doesn’t feel anything close to ready for general release to me.

A probably not complete list of niggles…

  • No total balance (account plus pots) available (could easily be shown on the ā€œcardā€)
  • In order to get a total balance I’ve had to just set Trends to include all pots and personal account rendering it useless for anything else
  • Navigation is inconsistent
  • Personal and joint pots still all in one section (even if there are now separate totals and a vertical view is available)
  • Activity is too large when upcoming transactions are displayed around the end of the month (and as it is mixed joint and personal I’d prefer not to even see it)
  • Notification messages (such as direct debit setup) can’t be cleared in the Activity view, you have to go in to the account
  • Card details layout is inconsistent for personal/joint and Flex (/Virtual?)
  • Going into an account or pot takes you to the old carousel view which seems odd but then you can’t easily get out of it
  • Additional linked acounts seem like even more of an afterthought on the new layout
  • There is some customisation available but very little

On the whole so far - for me and others will disagree - it adds nothing, makes it harder to see my balances and separate ā€œmineā€ from ā€œoursā€, and is harder and less intuitive to navigate.

I’ve turned it on because it’ll be forced on me at some point but I just hope that it gets a lot better before it’s rolled out widely.

Edit - I know the inconsistent card view niggle is the same on the old interface but I’m surprised it wasn’t fixed as part of this interface.

What’s missing for you? (Edit: now in the post above!)

It’s been my daily view for ages now. Feels like it’s good to go - with the proviso that changes continue to come!

I’ve moved over since pots view changed. I like it.

Another little inconsistency spotted.

My bills pots (across personal and joint accounts) just say personal or joint next to them.

But the personal and joint savings show ā€œsavings potā€ rather than just ā€œsavingsā€ next to them.

Surely in the pots section of overview you don’t need to say ā€œpotā€ next to each of them; it’s self evident?

I also just got the makeover instructional/choice flow. Nice :+1:

Thanks for these. Maybe it’s a low bar, but I’m not sure that there’s a significantly different set of issues with these as with the old layout.

To work through them:

This has never been available (much to my chagrin). Personally, I want to see this figure so I can see how much money I’m getting in Premium interest and how much is protected by the Monzo FSCS vs partner banks. While I still have the need, I don’t think it’s a redesign related issue.

It mostly feels okay to me on Android. I’ve found that Monzo has always had an issue with the function of the back gesture (last screen vs dumping you out of the app) and this design of anything helps with that. I think there might be a particular iOS thing here though?

This feels like a preference thing. I’m on record as wanting pots to be subdivisions of accounts (tap personal account, see personal pots; tap savings account, see savings pots) but it seems like a deliberate Monzo choice. So it’s not a problem with the design as much as their conscious choice.

Two things here. The upcoming transactions thing should be fixed imminently (h/t @davidwalton). The new feed is designed as an aggregated feed of all accounts so again (unless we get a filter) it looks like it’s not going to do what you want, alas.

Is this a deal-breaker? It would be nice to filter what’s on the feed, and even nicer to have a better place for non transaction alerts/events, but this feels kinda marginal to me (but obviously not to you!)

That’s always been the case! So again not a problem with the redesign itself. That said, the main current card screen has been redesigned (and looks great) - I expect virtuals and Flex to move to that design soon.

There’s so much in the app that it’s difficult to change everything at once. I’m assuming that Monzo is redecorating the entrance hall (Overview) before doing the bedrooms (accounts and carousels). Maybe the new pots screen gives an indication of what it might be like though?

This feels like a preference thing. To me they’re more prominent - they’re on the main screen now rather than hidden behind a pull down gesture. And we’re told that we’ll be able to pin non Monzo accounts up top soon, which’ll definitely make them first class citizens.

More than previously, I think? And the foundations for more.

For me, it’s reached good enough stage. That doesn’t mean that I think it’s finished and it doesn’t mean that I’m not worried that Monzo will stop before it’s properly finished (like they did last time). But I do think it’s excellent and I do think it’s ready!

I opened my app and was very excited, I thought we were finally getting the option to move around the blocks and really start to customise the app so I was super confused as to what was happening. It does feel weird that it’s being launched to new customers and people who aren’t opting in before it’s got key elements like connected accounts at the top and customisable layouts because then changing these people over to even more change later on may be weird for them rather than getting them used to a block of new things all at once. It makes me worried that this means we’ve seen the end of big changes.

I do really love the new view though, so if this was the furthest it got I’d still be very happy, but it also still has a lot of potential!

:pensive:

visually, it’s decent.

Functionally, it’s a step backwards.

The Activity box especially really frustrates me. Mine currently shows 1 upcoming direct debit, 2 card transactions from today, and 1 (out of 6) Direct Debits that went out this morning. Someone please explain the logic in showing me 1 of my 6 DDs. Who thought, ā€œyeah, this guy has 6 DDs today, let’s roll a dice and randomly pick one to show him.ā€ This is just crap, lazy, etc.

The Left to Spend graphic has gone.

I was confused about Total upcoming, because I thought it would be a sum of the upcoming payments in my feed, but I now realise it’s the sum of the items in the Scheduled Payments tab due before the end of the month. I guess this kinda makes sense because all the other Spotlights are monthly, but I don’t find it useful.

…

I’ve lost left to spend :unamused:

Overview shows 4 transactions instead of 6 on the old screen :unamused:

And instead I’ve got an option to create a pot permanently visible at the bottom of the screen :unamused:

This isn’t progress.

Activity will show all upcoming transactions and 3 transactions that have already gone, so two card payments are most recent and it’s showing the most recent direct debit to have left your account.
