At the risk of going on about this ad nauseam, the old monzo layout was brilliant for this - itās what made monzo so useful to me and was monzoās USP. The new home screen
hides recent transactions if you have more than 3 or 4
hides the transaction dates
removed the left to spend red/amber/green graphic
3 major steps backwards imo, and was enough push me over to Chase.
Side note - while weāre talking usability, is there a way to copy only the account number to clipboard? e.g. so it can be pasted into a form. I had cause to do this a while back and could only find an option to copy the sort code and account number simultaneously, which was no use.
When the app view changed I was somewhat neutral, though I didnāt like the pots moving as I used it as you may have, to get a financial picture at a quick glance.
The spotlights work great for me, an improvement I feel on what was before; I love that theyāre not permanently on the Home Screen, but just a swipe down away!
I use the joint account balance spotlight, so I can quickly see the balance over the joint account and pots, then upcoming outgoings for the month and how much we have left in our targets. Also think itās great that tapping on the joint balance spotlight shows you the joint account and pots.
When I load the app, to see an overview of my personal or joint account, I have to pull down and then tap the total balance view. This is too many steps for me.
In the total balance view, you canāt tap on the main account to view transactions in it.
In the total balance view, you canāt reorder the pots (I have a pot that Iāve added which sits at the bottom of the list, even though I have reordered in the home screen pots area).
When I am in an account, getting to pots is much slower. It requires you to either:
Back to home, then scroll down, then tap Savings, then tap the Pot
Back to home, pull down, tap total balance view, tap the Pot.
On the home screen, Personal and Joint pots are split between Pots and Savings. I donāt really see much of a difference between them.
All Savings pots are collapsed into one line, so you have to tap on it before you see the list of savings pots.
To go into my joint account transactions from the home screen, I have to tap the card, then tap it again.
For me there needs to be some simplicity and consistency. Itās a bit all over the place right now.
Iāve got separate account cards with their balances at the top which I like.
Below that I have a combined recent activity feed. Which I like in theory but more often than not it doesnāt show me enough transactions and I then need to tap into it.
Below that I have a combined(ish) pot list with balances for each showing. Whilst it combines pots from different accounts, these pots have been separated from interest bearing pots.
Below this we have out savings pots, again combined across accounts. This time they are all consolidated into one line though and I have to tap into the āSavingsā section to see a list of pot balances.
Then thereās investments and Iām not sure if we are supposed to view that as a pot or an account or a hybrid of both.
Feels like it is itās own thing so not sure why it is combined with savings pots rather than getting itās own section like cashback.
The spotlights are nice but when you have a few of them turned on it gets messy again.
The information behind the account spotlights give a good overview but Iād expect to see those screens when I tap on the account cards on the homescreen, maybe thatās just me though
I know Summary didnāt work for everyone but I think losing its left to spend bars (not the trends one, itās different) and the ability to have different budgets for different accounts is a huge step backwards.
Apologies if that sounds overly negative, individually the different elements look good, but when combined the app is just more work to use.
Iād like to add to this. It was a deciding factor in the move away from Monzo. I realise of course that things canāt stay as they are for ever, and change is a good thing.
TL;DR My personal preference was to be able to see my main balance and swipe up to see my total balance across all cards, pots and accounts. But only go into the detail if I wanted to.
In the āold worldā I could open Monzo, see my balance on my card and with a swipe see what was where in a very simple way. Just knowing my main account balance and being able to swipe to see what was where in what pot was excellent.
The current version is very all over the place. I see cards with lots of different numbers stacked up and a list of transactions below. I find this confusing, even with spotlights.
The card mentioned above seems to be helping with that, the ability to see what is where āat a glanceā
Personally, Iād like to see account overviews and activity on a separate tabs and let the user select which one is the default āHomeā screen when the app launches.
Compared to the rest of the sections āActivityā seems like the odd one out and mixing it with the rest seems off to me.
I feel like putting everything on the āHomeā tab means that nothing has a home.
Quick bug report (on iOS), wondering if this is a known issue ā Iāve noticed that if I put a note on a Flex transaction it doesnāt show in the new combined activity feed in the way that it does for a non-Flex transaction. (If I tap through into the TK Maxx transaction here, I can see the note Iāve added.)
Presume this is one for the App Evolution team rather than the Flex team specificallyā¦
Is there a way to change the Premium Card on the home screen to have a less dominant background. The white is very difficult to differentiate when you dont have dark mode on and not very accessible.
Maybe a Blue background or the standard monzo colour card like it was before I activated my card.,
Dont like the new look android app at all. The main screen used to tell me my balance and available money after planned direct debits etc. But now it just shows the balance ?

On the main screen (āHomeā) you can configure āSpotlightsā which are shown when you tap&drag the Home screen down. You can configure a Left-to-spend spotlight there (among many other āSpotlightsā)
My beef is that you canāt see the Spotlight - or any left-to-spend data - in the individual account screens, which is a bit awkward, as you then have to go back to home & swipe down the see the configured Spotlight. Yes, itās only a few taps&drags, but it used to be front and centre with each account without doing anything.
I think you should be able to click thru to your pots from the (Personal and Joint balance) Spotlight. That would make it infinitely more usable for me, and return functionality that I loved in the previous version of Monzo.
In our continued effort to enhance Overview and give you the tools to make it work for you, we have just released a number of customisation options for your activity feed.
You can now choose how many transactions (excluding upcoming payments) appear in your mini feed on Overview (up to a maximum of 5)
You can now choose which pot transactions contribute to the feed
The menu can be accessed from the ... button on the top-right of the activity feed on Overview. Users with connected accounts will already be familiar with this menu as it simply adds further options to the existing screen.
This is a welcome improvement, however, I think you have missed the mark a little⦠as most of the criticism I recall was that people didnāt want personal and joint transactions shown together and the ability to toggle personal / joint accounts is missing. Also, people wanted many more transactions, so not sure that 5 cuts the mustardā¦
Personally. Ive become so used to it as it was, I donāt think Iāll change anything!
