App Evolution (new look Monzo app): Feedback Megathread 📣

Funny, Ive not really made much use of moving money from pots this way. Maybe it’s not as obvious as to me as it could be? Maybe I associate “Move Money” with moving money between personal and joint accounts? I think I need re-programming

One observation though is that the flow you described : -

  1. scroll down to identify transaction
  2. scroll back to display card
  3. click move money
  4. move money from pot to account

would be even asier if the card remained at the top of the screen

  1. scroll down to identify transaction
  2. click move money
  3. move money from pot to account

The more I look at the new ways of doing things, the more I realise how good certain aspects of the old app layout was

Great to be able to provide feedback and know that the people who have the power to make changes are listening. Obviously I am one of many voices and you have to produce a product that works for everyone.

Monzo has allowed me to gain control of my finances. I am in the best finacial health of my life and this is in part thanks to Monzo.

I love the way that Pots allow me to see real time how much money I have left this month for food or fuel. I love that I can put money aside for annual purchases/trips.

My wife and I both get paid into our joint account. We use the salary sorting function to split our money into various joint pots and savings and to send money to our personal accounts for our individual spending.

90% of our spending comes from our Joint account. We keep a nominal buffer of cash in our account and the rest is in pots. DD’s and regular payments come directly from their assigned pots. Other spending we have to manually take out of the correct Pot to top our buffer back up.

We love budgeting this way.

You are correct that I have the new account views enabled and they do look clean.

I hadn’t noticed the move money option. With this in mind the alternative flow would be:

  1. Click see all to expand beyong the last 3no. transactions across both accounts.
  2. Identify spend (slightly trickier with personal account items also displayed).
  3. Click X to come back out of feed.
  4. Click Move money (which brings up screen assuming I am moving money from personal to joint)
  5. Click from
  6. scroll to pot (joint pots are last on the list)
  7. Select pot.
  8. Enter amount and click withdraw.
  9. Click Done.
  10. Click on Feed again allowing me to repeat from item 2.

This does save me 1 step but is still 3 steps more than before. From my perspective I would be happy with any of the following:

  1. Ability to spend directly from pots via Apple Pay.
  2. Ability to assign Merchants to automatically come out of a pot e.g Aldi assigned to Food pot (or to automatically draw the corresponding value from the food pot). I believe that they have this feature already in the USA.
  3. Option to draw the same value of money from one or multiple pots. This could be similar to splitting the bill but with the pots within your account.

Thank you for taking the time to read and understand our experiences. It is nice to know that we are listened to.

You may or may not already know this, but with a virtual card (available on Monzo Plus and Premium) you can have a virtual card assigned to a pot and add it to Apple Pay. Spend from it comes from the pot automatically. (Caveat: personal account only (hopefully for not much longer though :eyes:))

I really dislike the way the pots have moved.
Being able to zoom out on one single account and see all of my money stored away for birthdays / xmas. Then move to the joint account and do the same.

It was simple to just pull down on the account page and get to an overview of all my money at once. Now its split into my Standard/ Joint / Flex. Then all the pots, no separation between joint and personal without manually ordering them. Then its savings, which again you have to press into to split between joint and personal.

It’s gone from being seamless to having so much friction to see where my money is stored.

Yes, Joint account Parity is the only thing holding me back from a Monzo Plus subscription. I don’t need an auto export to Google sheets so that I can create a graph on how my lunch money gets spent on My personal Account.

I love my Google sheet that does this.

It keeps me in check for making my own own lunches because all those meal deals add up to a significant amount each month otherwise.

Exactly. It’s expensive to take the easy option.

Some good months, some not so good. And I only go in twice a week :person_shrugging:

Impressive!

When I get bored of meal deals (which is all the time  ), it’s too easy to order from Uber Eats and the likes which ramps up the cost further :pensive:

What’s your go to meal deal?

I want to know what happened in August and October!

Might need a thread to consider the choice of a ham and cheese sandwich

All day breakfast or coronation chicken sandwich is the one.

Haven’t had a meal deal in a while. The Glory days were when a family size bag of Maltesers counted as a snack in the Boots meal Deal giving you a triple combo, Chicken salad, BLT and Prawn sandwich, family bag of Maltesers and a Naked Blue machine smoothie. At £3.79 (at the time) I also think this may have also Maxed out on the calories per Meal Deal GBP.

This is how I have my kids using Monzo (well, just one now as the elder one got a Monzo 16-17 yo account) - assign a Virtual card to a pot, manually add the VC to the kids Apple Pay and boom - they can spend on it. I just top the pot up.

Downside is: they don’t see what the balance is and so you keep getting oined. I heard that Apple Pay began showing balances on cards, but maybe not VC’s?

Brie and cranberry. I think it’s because its one of the new festive ones and is therefore a nice change.

Orange or apple juice and a small tub of pringles :yum:

I would have got away with a total-Android-household if it wasn’t for those meddlin’ iKids

Thanks - that makes total sense.

October I didn’t go in! August I was clearly well behaved.

Confirmed new feature. Each time you buy lunch out, Monzo tells you what you could’ve made at home instead.

And creates a virtual pot that shows you how much money you didn’t save.
