Anyone have a pic of how the American Express Everyday Rewards Credit Card looks like irl?
Would they do this? It’s a side move not up/down move in terms of Amex cards.
I think they would. When I closed my PRGC after opening a BAPP account, they moved my limit over for me no questions asked.
Interesting. I wonder why you can’t change cards that easily then if sideways.
The issue with third party points is they essentially purchase in bulk so they can’t give more limit than they have to give away.
I did not know they did this until I closed down the gold rewards and they offered to move the limit over.
I guess they see it as your total risk is X so when closing a card they will keep your risk at the same level and move it to a card if you want.
How much can you put through it that normally you wouldn’t?
When I was trying to do the same I put my phone bills through, even paid my rent via a portal to reach the threshold. It depends how much you want it and how good you are at managing finances to ensure it doesn’t mess anything up.
Buying gift cards would count as spending so don’t see any reason why not.
Sure. You could put a load onto your Amazon account balance too using Amazon gift cards. I have not read the T&C - so I would avoid things like adding money to e-wallet services until I was 100% sure it would count though. Would likely count as a cash withdrawal.
I don’t know, but I was imagining buying gift cards and then redeeming them yourself
Is there anything to suggest Amazon top up wouldn’t count? Briefly scanning the website it just states any goods or services charged to the card count.
the amazon gift card top-up method worked for me. I went for a standard BA card as I did not think I could hit the 3k but having read @coffeemadman reply about rent, I can also pay mine via portal and just realised I could easily hit that 3k and am now missing out on 30k points
Thanks I was wondering the same as I have a gold card too, and the fee free year is almost up. And still no metal card!!!
I hadn’t thought of cancelling and signing up again, but really gold card has been of little use to me, even flights i have booked this year I can’t use lounge access as flights are early and lounge is closed.
Well you need to be someone who buys takeaways…
This thread has encouraged me to have a look at Amex because of the welcome offers. Seriously considered the BA cards but with the annual fee and having already booked flights we need for this year I’ve opted for the gold card given the fee is waved for year one. Whether I’d keep it past a year will remain to be seen.
Even if you don’t, you can still make some money from it.
Amex don’t like more than one or two hard searches and/or new accounts in the past 3 months, so maybe your switches affected their decision?
Amex are pretty well known for being up and down with their acceptance. I got accepted when I had no doubt that I would be rejected, yet my partner with a better credit score than me was initially rejected until he called up and manually altered a previous address formatted oddly and was accepted.
So, I applied for a card just before 10pm Sunday night. Was approved straight away (also applying for supplementary card holder at the same time, which they informed might delay things slightly but didn’t in this instance). Expected the card in 7 days, but it arrived yesterday morning so a very rapid turn around.
Positive experience so far. Now to collect all the points!
Great.
Did you get a limit you consider low, what you expected, or high?
