Hello. I was delighted that I could finally sign my child up to Monzo and move everything over from Natwest including my own personal account. Big fan of monzo in general.
But… I’ve received her card and there doesn’t seem to be an account number/sort code attached to it, it’s all under my account.
This I’m afraid renders the account useless as she needs to be able to send her account details to people she’s doing odd jobs for eg babysitting, pet sitting etc.
Is there a way around this? She’s 13 and her account with NatWest had its own details. I don’t want to have to stick with NatWest but I will if I have to. Thanks
There are other providers beside Natwest who offer a current account for teenagers (not just a prepaid account attached to an adult’s account, like Monzo).
Thanks for your reply. That is so disappointing, so it’s not actually a bank account then and it looks like I’m stuck with NatWest for the foreseeable.
When you say ‘so far’, does that mean that it’s a feature that is coming sometime soon? Until it does I’m sorry to say it’s of no use to us so I can’t really see the point of opening it! Wondering whether to go to the bother of closing it again or waiting in the hope that full bank account features become available down the line.
Lots of people are asking for it but this is isn’t even launched properly yet, it’s in a beta format that people are signing up for knowing that and not reading what the account gives.
Many people don’t actually want their children to have a way to get paid directly by anyone and want that control.
It might evolve to have the things you want it to, but it might not.
My ‘so far’ comment was actually referencing the child account was currently linked to a single Personal (adult) account. As there is usually more than one parent involved, people are asking for access from other people (like via a Joint account) and the hint from Monzo has been that ‘co-parent’ access is being investigated.
But as far as a child account account number goes - I don’t see that happening at all given the structure it has launched with. The child card has it’s own number/PIN/etc., but is linked to the Adult Personal account for the funding of it. Just like a pot & virtual card is.
