Long time user of Monzo, generally a really good app but one thing I’d love to see is the ability to blur/hide transaction amounts and balances on the home screen. Years ago I had an N26 account and they had a really trick feature where you swiped over your screen to hide all your balances and amounts. Means you can use your app in public to check whatever you need but still retain some privacy around any amounts in your account.
I’ve added a screenshot from the N26 app I found online showing how the used to implement it. I think this feature would make a welcome addition to the Monzo app.
No idea why people wouldn’t want this to protect their privacy when you have to bank on the move. Seems like a bit of an oversight especially if other banking companies are already implementing it.
Revolut is their main competitor. Obviously that’s what everyone should already be doing but if there wasn’t a use case for it, no other apps would have it. Can’t see it being too difficult to implement.
I’m confused about the purpose of it? What can I do on my banking app that’s useful if I a) can’t see any transaction amounts or balances and b) am somewhere where I don’t want to deal with anything private or confidential because people can see my screen.
I also don’t buy the argument that someone can actually read your transaction details while you’re checking them - no matter how close they are. It just seems odd to me, because if you’re crammed into a space that tight, it’s probably not the right time or place to be doing anything, let alone your banking.
Transaction history is obscured in the screenshot.
I wouldn’t check my card details or make a payment if strangers could see my screen (and making a payment usually involves seeing your account balance anyway).
It all seems a bit odd to me. You don’t want people to see your account balance but you are fine with them seeing your 16 digit PAN? That’s madness surely
You’re right, and well within your right to suggest it too.
All I mentioned was that it’s not a popular request to try and manage your expectations, but you wanted to debate it. Which is fine, I just gave the argument from the lengthy discussions we’ve had on this in the past.
Ah okay, so you want amounts but not transactions. That makes more sense (the screenshot confused me it looked like anything useful was obscured!).
It’d be even more useful if you could open the app in that state (eg with a long press from the Home Screen), if it was that I might have been use it sometimes!
If I were out and about and wanted to protect the details of my banking I’d put a privacy screen protector on my phone as it has the added advantage of protecting everything on the screen.
I didn’t say anything about someone being able to see them? Im suggesting blurring for balances and transaction amounts on the main screen especially as per my original post.
Problem with saying that it’s 100% a useful feature is that it is a personal opinion. The number of votes received when it’s been mentioned before tells a different story.
I can’t say that I’ve ever used the facility on any apps that support it.
