I can see that they’re popular with some (most!) but I would like the option to turn them off.
No I love merchant logos, too me thats one of the things that sets Monzo apart from some banks.
Just want to weigh in and say I also love the logos.
Looking forward to a more automated system
A lot are not on Twitter, which is the easiest method of updating logos in Monzo.
Then there’s the quality of the logos - some aren’t even logos, they’re random photos of someone swimming (?!!) or a picture of a beer barrel.
Loads of independent takeaway places don’t have social media.
Most of them do have a JustEat account with a Facebook/Twitter/Instagram sized logo though. Unfortunately JustEat logos aren’t supported yet.
The moment you move away from chains or big brands the likelihood of a Twitter account plummets.
Let customers to upload custom logos…
Gosh no. That would cause chaos. ![]()
If you were referring to on your device only, then I don’t have time to be doing that and I’d rather they wasn’t there at all.![]()
I don’t see why on the long long list of nice-to-have-but-not-essential features we shouldn’t be able to have our own custom logos for each retailer. After all, that’s kinda (I think) the plan for an address book style thing to group your contacts and give them an icon. ![]()
At the end of the day merchant logos are a nice to have feature. If they’re wrong, missing or removed entirely it won’t have any effect on how I manage my finances.
I’ve seen the post discussing all the options, such as a Google Local guides type of system but for the time being I think there are more pressing features that need working on
I like merchant logos but Monzo has need to handle them better (as they’ve pointed out themselves)!
There’s an Australian app based bank called Up that I use, when you purchase at at an ‘unknown’ retailer it gives you a suggestion of what it may be based on the data they receive and it will update it in real time if you confirm that the suggestion is correct, if it isn’t then you use Google Maps to locate the merchant and put it through as a suggestion.
I will try and get a few screenshots next time I get one!
@harryru that sounds like a good idea with logos the Australian Up bank.
I think this system is really important to customer perceptions of Monzo, really glad to hear you are working on it, and also glad to see some cops people have been doing great work handling updates. Little things like this matter a lot.
You could actually charge merchants a small fee to control their presence in your app (let them set logo, name, desc). Then use that foot in the door to allow matching transactions to receipt data, let them add optional loyalty schemes in app (win for them and for customers who want that). I think that would be better than relying on customers for this. You could in some cases get them to change their identifier too to help you uniquely identify them.
There is a lot that could be done here if you start a relationship with merchants and this is a good opportunity to do so
This is an example of Up… https://streamable.com/ntqcj
I like their UI too
I love the logos being on the feed but at the same time it is annoying when they’re not accurate. There is a pub near me that always shows up with the JD Wetherspoon logo, despite it being an Ember Inn. I have fed this back in app many times but alas it never updates #firstworldproblems
Give me a pm and we can fix this!
I love the Merchant Logos!!
That doesn’t solve the issue the original poster made in the fact that a lot of small business’ don’t have official branding and therefore are also less likely to have a twitter page.
What does Emma do when there is no twitter page? (I don’t use it)
Why out of curiosity?
I don’t feel for or against them particular. What makes you love them?
