£10 when you open an account!

Why are people angry about this? Do Halifax customers get annoyed that new customer who move over get £100-?

Don’t worry  A few of Monzo’s staff have been posting links, no trouble for anybody

Personally I think £10 cheapens it to a prepay type emoney business, like Revolut etc not a proper bank.

Think I saw one from @simonb today?

Why do I feel this promotion is not very well timed just before crowdfunding and while Monzo are struggling to provide proper customer service to existing and growing number of customers…

I don’t think this is true :no_mouth:
Taking a stop start approach and freezing growth each time we had capacity issues would just end up damaging our position and simply put, people would go elsewhere! As a number of people have said wait times are not at all where we want to be but we have been correcting that with agressive hiring of COps (that’s starting to make a difference!) and other things (look out for the blog post) :+1:

We would not sacrifice customer outcomes for the sake of growth, but we have to try and steady the ship rather than start making drastic changes!

I would suggest if we want to discuss this further, this thread is more on topic :raised_hands:

Why?

Any user you have during these issues is a potential liability. If you piss them off, not only will you lose them as a customer but there’s a good chance they’ll also tell their friends how bad it was and damage the brand, so you end up worse off than if you didn’t acquire this customer in the first place.

Incumbents do similar. First directnhave offered £100 in the past, they now seem to offer gifts

I think if your willing to give an incentive to new customers what about customers who have been loyal to you? As in say more than 1 year held the account or so? I joined when you was mondo so been here a while

Hmm I don’t know if this would be true. Imagine if they froze signups for 3 months. Would 300,000 people sign up when they ‘switched on’ the growth again? If you ask me Starling and Revolut would just have 300,000 more customers and Monzo would have lost out.

@Recchan Everyone likes rewards no matter what product or service you have :+1:

Monzo have a per customer acquisition budget of around £10. How that gets spent seems pretty irrelevant, all I care about is that they spend that £10 on what works. I’d much rather they gave it to people rather than spent it on gimmicky adverts.

Agreed that lots of people might just join up for the reward but the only way to find out if that’s the case is for Monzo to try it out and see what happens. The barrier to adoption of Monzo is getting the app on people’s phone and their account signed up. If people want to keep using their legacy bank after using Monzo a bit then there’s not a lot of hope for them anyway.

Are they required to use Monzo a bit (do a few transactions) before they get the reward though?
Or can you just apply for an account, receive your card and do nothing and still get the £10.

I hope it’s the former.

For the previous new customer offer, you’d get it after you make your first card transaction :+1:

It doesn’t matter, your making a big issue out of nothing really, I only made a comment, no need to get into a debate about it

@Recchan No worries it’s fine  maybe wires were crossed LOL no biggy

This got mentioned on
https://old.reddit.com/r/FreebiesUK/

Would be interesting to see the demographic that sees it from that subreddit and if it is any different to existing channels.
