Zopa Bank Chat

Just opened this up as my friend had a referral offer. I actually like the app so far and am considering using it properly. Has anyone had any issues with the saving pots, including the boosted ones? Does withdrawing money always work as expected?

All works perfectly. Withdrawals used to take longer, now pretty much instant. Never had any problems. Just opened flexible ISA.

@Lightning720

When their non-ISA rates were competitive, I had a ‘ladder’ of fixed term pots with them.

When the rates declined, I moved funds elsewhere.

I’ve recently opened a Flexible ISA.

Never had any issues with them. transfers both in and out have been very quick indeed. Everything just works.

The ISA ‘separate pot’ functionality is superb

Thank you! Will probably go to Zopa then. Can get a bit better rates elsewhere, but they are still good and everything seems to work well.

Looks like it’s still in place

Wonder what would happen if you set up a DD at, say, Lloyds and then CASSed over to Starling.

It’ll move over fine. It’s a valid sort code and such so it’ll work fine (at least it did with Monzo back in the day).

It’s like many websites didn’t accept Monzo but if you called up they could manually do it. If they take direct debits, it works in those ways.

Looks like Zopa are planning to launch current accounts by the end of the year.

It will be interesting to see how they approach this. They seem to going for the higher interest rate on your current account as the pull but I think they will need more than that to be successful.

Anyone had any success with a balance transfer to Zopa just using the card number?

Apparently mine hasn’t arrived because they can’t accept just using card number which Nationwide solely requested.

Can only be done by account number, sort code, and card number as ref according to their customer service.

Zopa is reducing their interest rates:

Smart Saver’s new rates
Access pots: from 19 August 2024, the new rate will be 4.30% AER* variable (4.21% gross**). The current rate is 4.54% AER* variable (4.44% gross**).

7-day Boosted pots: from 26 August 2024, the new rate will be 4.33% AER* variable (4.24% gross**). The current rate is 4.57% AER* variable (4.47% gross**).
31-day Boosted pots: from 19 September 2024, the new rate will be 4.45% AER* variable (4.36% gross**). The current rate is 4.65% AER* variable (4.55% gross**).
95-day Boosted pots: from 22 November 2024, the new rate will be 4.70% AER* variable (4.60% gross**). The current rate is 4.80% AER* variable (4.69% gross**).
Smart ISA
Access ISA pots: from 19 August 2024, the new rate will be 4.80% AER* variable (4.69% gross**). This includes a 0.5% AER*/gross** fixed bonus rate which has not changed. The current rate is 5.08% AER* variable (4.96% gross**)
If you have any open Fixed Term ISA pots, the rates won’t be changing as they’re fixed for the duration of the term.

Still no Apple Pay support on their credit card?!

Nope Coming :soon:

What a shit show.

Don’t except balance transfers by electronic funds (card number), also don’t accept cheques (which Nationwide can send to clear the balance).

Nationwide don’t, from what they tell me, make a faster payment using the account number and sort code with a reference.

The two are far from compatible.

Is this referring specifically to credit card balance transfers?

I have no issue moving money between Nationwide and Zopa savings account.

Sorry, yes.

I have a credit card balance with Zopa I wanted to utilise 0% offer with Nationwide to pay it down.

Using the card number failed because Zopa don’t accept electronic transfers this way.

Nationwide then send a cheque but Zopa also don’t accept them this way.

Frustratingly; nationwide don’t send by bank transfer either.

There’s a whole thread on this issue on MSE forum, ie people getting a Zopa CC and then being unable to transfer any balance to that card from a myriad of other cards/providers.

Chocolate fireguard springs to mind :man_facepalming::man_shrugging:

I logged a complaint with Zopa earlier. Im baffled, yes, Nationwide could do better and being able to do sort code/account number transfer, but not accepting a cheque or the industry standard (?) of giving the card number and expiry?

Probably circumvent it by money transfer from Vanquis, to clear down Zopa, and then Nationwide BT to Vanquis, but I incur fees that way.

From what I’ve seen in this thread why anyone uses them is a mystery to me :woman_shrugging:
