Vertical Card Discussion (All Banks) šŸ’³

Yeah, I don’t use round up (or coin jar) - But at least it would have been something usable.

I’m not knocking them, they are trying to break the mould of ā€œboring bankingā€ - Perhaps I need to open a business account (need to start with the business first), and then I’ll appreciate it more!

It does strike me as somewhat odd to spend a year picking two colours and not a third, hype the launch then reply again and again just that they’re ā€œworking on joint accounts.ā€

Why not just keep joint accounts the current purple?

I actually really like the teal colour! I feel like not as many people with Starling would like the rebrand though… wasn’t the common complaint with Monzo’s cards that it looked garish and unprofessional? Maybe they could retain the purple colour for the joint accounts which I’m sure most people would put their spending on anyway, since purple is like Starling’s thing!

This is the first time Starling has hyped a release on their community forum without it being leaked through a press release and someone sharing it to the forum, so with the bright colour + hype maybe they’re taking a leaf out of Monzo’s book/ listening to requests from their users. Maybe they can do beta testing and crowdfunding next? :eyes:

The joint account card (and all of the current branding), no longer fits in with the new card designs.

I’d be interested to see if they have an overhaul of all of their design work.

The joint could stay purple - But have it in the same style as the new cards.

Beginning to panic though…

It’s ok, I shared it and I’m not a member of their forum

I think they are trying to highlight the fact they have told the community first (something that has been a common complaint about ā€œfeaturesā€ being released to the media, before the community).

Ah, a feeling of exclusivity. Glad they’re taking feedback on board at least! And hopefully sort a colour for the joint accounts soon. Took a peek at the forum and it’s a mixed response. Wonder how non-forum goers will react when they find out about the rebrand! I swore it was an iPad when I saw the first post

The majority of twitter replies aren’t guessing new card designs that’s for sure

Me too.

I feel a little bad as I’ve just persuaded my brother to get a personal and business account with them… He had the cards delivered last week… awkward.

Does anyone really choose or exclude a bank based on its card though?
I love the new Starling card but I’m not going to bank with them just to get one

I don’t. I personally don’t like hot coral, but use the joint account for house related stuff.

I definitely don’t, but people kick off on social media for the dumbest reasons :joy: I’m sure we can find loads of tweets/ posts on here about the hot coral. Also amused that some people are calling the colour ā€œblueā€ :joy: this is the exact problem with Monzo and people calling the card pink! Good luck to Starling fielding tweets about this

@nickh the business account card looks slick, so I’m sure he could mysteriously lose his card soon

It took them 20 days to create and release the joint accounts!! :eyes: I’d be mortified if I created a new feature like that and only took 3 weeks to do it!

Saw this post! Seems like points about how joint accounts were in development for a long time were wrong then, it was built in 20 days! Impressive how fast it was built but it reminds me a little of the gambling blocker situation.

I find this timeline absolutely fascinating…
On the May 3rd, this blog was released by Starling which mentioned ā€˜We fully intend to offer joint accounts. The aim is to do so later this year.’

About three weeks later, on the 22nd May, Monzo announced their ā€˜big list 1’ which commited them to launching Joint Accounts within three months.

Then on the 24th June, Starling suddenly announced they were launching Joint Accounts with immediate effect.

That’s exactly 22 working days after the big list announcement from Monzo.

Why? 99% of the the framework must of been there already to do it in that timeframe. Did we not get round ups in a day?

The reply is very interesting too

Edit: Whoops, @evangelskies speedy typing beat me to it lol!

I’m a developer. I don’t care how much framework is there, you take your time over a brand new feature! Perhaps I’m more careful than the Starling developers, I don’t know, but it sounded like a tiny amount of time to do something like this.

As for the round-up, that was developed on one of those Monzo Fridays, and had a minimal impact at the time. I bet it had a fair bit of testing before it went live, though.

It’s been noted that the hard work of developing business accounts, allowed them to finish the joint account side of things very quickly (20 days it would appear).

This wouldn’t have been possible unless they had spent (somewhere in the region of) 6 months developing the business accounts.

Starling have previously said this by the way… I’m not making it up :joy:
