Triodos Chat

For me it’s the Bouygues Telecom logo:

The new design will show up in Google and Apple Pay, but the new physical cards will only be sent out when current stocks are depleted.

I want it! Anyone on Android had the new makeover?

Yes. Looks far more modern despite the app not actually changing.

The Android app was updated earlier this evening.

iOS looks to have updated too.

I opened an account today. App is new look, but surprised to see old style card on Apple Pay.

By the sounds of it they’re not rushing anything - though I did expect to see the new card in Google Pay by now. It briefly appeared in the Triodos app when I selected ‘cards’, but is now showing the old card.

Well I closed my Triodos current account.

A couple of weeks ago I received a call from the Triodos Fraud Department (or so I thought) to tell me there was an AirBnB transaction on my account which had been flagged as fraudulent. I asked how I would know the call was genuine, and he told me he wouldn’t be asking for any personal information. It was on a Saturday. Normally I would end the call and phone the bank - but Triodos have no customer facing staff outside of business hours, so I couldn’t do that. I was told my card would be cancelled and I would need to read back the secure code sent by Triodos. The OTP email was completely genuine, and I dutifully read back the code . . . . I am used to doing this with the likes of EE and many other online services so it didn’t raise any flags.

I was stupid. I teach this stuff, for goodness sake. The only reason I continued with the call was that I knew I couldn’t contact Triodos on a Saturday.

I logged on to my Triodos account, cancelled my card and transferred the balance elsewhere. When i did manage to talk to them I was told my account was secure and nobody had set up online banking elsewhere. They froze my account and said they would look into how a genuine OTP had been sent without my request.

The incident has helped me to come to the conclusion I need to stop with the new fintech banks. My baseline now is that any bank I use must have public facing customer service at weekends and evenings. I moved over to RBS, to an existing account.

I also have an account with LHV - they’re even worse. I don’t think you can talk to them at any time - an email may solicit a call-back but when you’re in a stressful situation you want to call and talk, now, not in a few hours or even days.

I’ve learned my lesson.

If I was not expecting a call, there’s no way I am staying on.
I will hang up, check my app and call number on back of any of the cards or from one of the letters I have.

While at it I also block the card so that no more additional transactions can be attempted if any.

Not on a call I didn’t initiate.

To suggest you would never fall for a scam is worrying, to be honest. I never thought I would either - before this happened. My post was simply a warning that if you can’t talk to your bank outside of working hours you are asking for trouble. Your advice on calling the number on the back of the card doesn’t work at weekends and in the evening. I managed to find a number to call but it was VISA Card Services and they had no access to my Triodos account. Sometimes things go wrong through no fault of your own. Imagine you spot a large debit or two in your account on a Saturday morning and had to wait until 9am on Monday to talk to your bank. Is that really OK with you?

Block card, email them. That is informing them in reasonable time. They will be liable for anything else that goes on afterwards. Doesn’t matter when they respond to the email or when they will open again.

Sometimes, this wasn’t.

Giving them time is the number one cause of this. I don’t have time for this, I even hate calls generally.

I once hung up on a genuine Nationwide call. Reason, they wanted to talk to me about my account, something I didn’t expect. I called them several days later asking them about that call and they acknowledged it.

If my account is limited, I will look for them.

I will hung up on anyone claiming to be my bank or anything.

You are bank XYZ? Alright, I will call back later, have a nice dayz

I’ve done this with banks before. I had my card cloned once, TSB were fantastic about it. But it changed my trust level when speaking to someone on the phone. That trust level is now zero

Their credit card fraud team called me years ago.

“Are you happy to go through some security questions with me?”

“No”

“Fair enough. Call the number on the back of your card. I’ll leave a note on your account so they’ll know what it’s about.”

Same happened to me, they called me and started asking stuff and I was like Dude…. just no.

He was like call back or send us a chat message and we’ll help you

Triodos though does have 24/7 phone support for lost or stolen card or fraud.

Elsewhere they say

So, would this have been card fraud? Or fraud-fraud? I’m assuming as they were asked for the OTP, it was to make a card payment?

The T+C’s for the current account also states 24/7 out of hours service for card issues.

Yes, but the ‘card issues’ number gets you through to VISA card services. No use at all for a compromised account where a scammer could potentially transfer money elsewhere. Looking back at the OTP it was for setting up online banking. Apart from my stupidity I do blame the bank for the lack of support at the weekend.

For card related fraud, block your card in the Triodos Mobile Banking App or in Internet Banking. Then, please call us on [0330 355 0355](tel:0330 355 0355) (or [+44 (0)1179 739339](tel:+44 (0)1179 739339) if calling from abroad) to speak to our 24/7 card services department.

So they do :joy: negligent with OTPs and reading their banks available information.
