This is getting a bit silly now isn’t it. The fact it’s “a historical fuel leak which locals have complained about since 2021” sums this situation up.

I remember some talk about no action on the phone muggers in London so wanted to share this satisfying video of 2 of them getting grabbed

That’s because the force in the story isn’t the failing Metropolitan Police.

You’re welcome to try and stop them if it’s that easy :+1:t2:

It’s worth noting that City Police have a small area to police and have excellent CCTV which is the reason this was able to be done.

It’s not the same in central Croydon, no matter what everyone seems to think.

Anyone have any guesses about what the “food item” is?

I hope it’s not a Gregg’s sausage roll.

Well yesterday was national sausage roll day.

And everyone is giving everyone a free Greggs sausage roll at the minute. So it tracks correlatively.

It just better not be Kinder Eggs again.

This is relevant to cost of living right?

Since when did a 12.5-15% service charge become the norm in London for food? It’s getting American without any of the positives…

Ask for it to be removed. If it’s optional but it’s added to the bill without asking you, is it really optional?

Agree. We had 10% service charge added to our bill in a pub just outside Bristol this week. Ok, it was a smart pub, very well run with great staff…… but it was fish & chips and a burger. Having had pubs [pre Covid] we are very mindful of tipping where appropriate but prefer that to be our choice. R-

It’s been 12.5% at least for many, many years in a lot of places. At least since I was at or just after university.

Absolutely this. I have zero problems asking for it to be removed and it has never been an issue.

Very glad to see this, finally some proactive action

25 arrests now  hopefully kept on remand all summer to stop any disruptions

Tried to hide the laptops under a bin

Unlikely, I’d say.

The most likely outcome would be released on conditional bail (or released under investigation) - unless there is sufficient evidence to charge them with a serious enough offence for them to be remanded in custody.

There’s a reasonable chance that the vast majority of them will never be charged with an offence.

You’re right - though it’s a shame. People who are showing a clear lack of care for everyone else and who have planned to disrupt critical infrastructure (airports) should not see the sun this summer, it is obviously in the publics interest to keep them locked up while the police comb through their devices and find the evidence needed to give them a custodial sentence for planning these events

Interesting night, I laughed out loud when Truss lost her seat.

I feel positive about the Labour government. They may not have exciting policies, I do think they seem like people in politics for the right reasons (and not just there to make themselves richer) which will be fresh. They also feel a hell of a lot less divided and internally focussed than the conservatives.

More than anything I think they’ll provide the stability that we’ve lacked for so long.

May 2025 can’t come soon enough.

Really hope that Labour can look at Ofwat and the other toothless organisations like Ofgem and Ofcom
