Thanks for the update, definitely appreciated and understandable with everything going on at the moment so hope everyone is alright!
Until travel goes back to normal (or mostly normal) then the packaged accounts can, though I must admit with the account mentioned about focussing on budgets etc. would that not be of use now given that some people might need such budgeting features to help them get through this difficult period?
Again, understandable if not, as I imagine these accounts might be best launched as a duo of choice rather than a forced effort to get one out there followed by the other later on down the line
I’m confused as to what ideas you’d like to hear after reading the below
By ‘new’ do you mean a new Plus? So you’d scrap what you’ve done so far and will come up with something else?
Or do you mean that you want ideas for something entirely new to work on, not related to Plus.
Either way, we know little about what you were going to offer so it will be hard to come up with suggestions. I can try but if you can help clear up the above, that will be great
I wouldn’t think of this as a formal Q&A, I’m just hanging out on here and responding to questions and comments as they come in. I’ll answer questions I can answer. If I can’t, I’ll let you know.
I’d say any thoughts on how you think a version of Monzo Plus would look given people aren’t travelling and have dramatically changed or cut down their spending would be really useful.
I’d hope even once plus was live they would still be doing new things, some for those with plus accounts and some for all accounts. I certainly would hesitate to pay for plus each month if that was to be a final product never to have new features or functionality
And I applaud you for doing so i meant more so id love it if you could repeat this and come on again when more is known and do the same to provide more clarification. Would hate for there to be repeated silence until the eventual launch.
In regards to this wouldn’t budgeting be more apt now than before and make sense to launch the lower of the 2 tiers?
We were planning on launching today! I’d say there are some bits and pieces that we still needed in place but for the most part we were all ready to go.
The team is working on what to do next, so everything is on the table. It’s all pretty fresh for us, too. So I don’t know where we’ll land just yet.
I find it disappointing that one of the versions seems to geared towards travellers, seems rather excluding to me, especially as there is only two tiers.
Was/is there any plans to branch out further than the two tiers? Not everyone travels a lot if at all
I agree with the comments about wouldn’t the tier about budgeting be quite useful right now? But I understand wanting to launch the tiers together.
The aim for us was to take the key reasons why someone might use Monzo, and amplify that experience for each new account. Travel spending is a huge reason why people use Monzo (but you’re right, it’s not the only one). So it made sense for us to build features and benefits that made that experience with us even better. It sounds like it wouldn’t have been the right account for you, and that’s fine. We knew going into this that it wouldn’t be for everyone. Many people will be happy using Monzo like they do today and that’s also great
Great time to release charity pots and/or Coronavirus related funding pots to help our fellow community! P.S Where is dark mode? We are currently in the dark on that one - excuse the pun!!
I think in terms of budgeting and people trying to make money go further, it could be a great opportunity to push virtual cards (as a plus feature) or to boost user growth.
Showing a smarter way to manage your money, allowing your Netflix/Spotify/card payment money to be put to one side, so people know they’ve got enough money to go around, and don’t have to worry about surprise subscriptions from their main balance, especially if they’ve got less money than normal coming into their acount.
