Subscription boxes šŸ“¦

The April box looks good. I just got it today. I am not sure about the drink though ā€¦

I think I might have to check some of these out when I get back to the UK in a few weeksā€¦

A word of warning on Tokyo Treat. Their 3 month subscription is very misleading. Having received nothing for two months theyā€™ve processed another payment and say I cannot be refunded. Not the ethos of a company I want to do business with.

Iā€™ve just started using Gousto and really like it - for the trial I got 4 meals in a box but thatā€™s too much, if I donā€™t cook one evening the ingredients start to go off, so Iā€™m going to switch to three per delivery, and probably do it every two weeks. I really like their delivery box packaging, it doesnā€™t feel too over the top, and the price feels about right, itā€™s not too far from what Iā€™d spend on a weeks groceries for the same number of meals when I plan my meals properly.

Yeah, ive tried the 4 meals option but living in my own meant I was wasting food so I go for a max of 3 now. Make them, eat one, save one for tomorrow (or freeze for later). Must admit Iā€™ve switched to Huel now for 2/3 so thatā€™s all my meals on subscription - cuts down on shopping!

Oh gosh, I love me a good subscription boxā€¦ (aside from those on the Waldo/toilet roll threadā€¦)

Iā€™ve used:

Not another bill - some stylish monthly / periodic gifts for him, her or home. A bit pricey but a nice gift for someone who has everything.

Papergang - monthly stationary subscription - Iā€™ve just cancelled this as I actually found no use for a lot of the items / or they just took up space. Some of the quality wasnā€™t that good eitherā€¦

Katieleamon also do monthly stationary subscriptions - I found the quality way better - more cards, letter writing stuff, etc.

masktime - offer a monthly Korean facemask subscription. I got this for my SO for Christmas - have an epic stack of all these weird and wonderful facemasks.

Will add more that Iā€™ve used when I can think of themā€¦

Everyoneā€™s entitled to spend their money as they see fit but for the life of me I canā€™t understand the appeal of these subscription services #OldMan

This is extremely relatable. I used to be on Graze a year or so ago and the postie CRUSHED the boxes into my postbox lol

EDIT

I canā€™t understand the appeal of these subscription services

To be fair, Iā€™ve gone off them a lot lately. In most cases itā€™s cheaper to go to the supermarket (e.g. Graze), but if theyā€™re infrequent and special theyā€™re a nice treat (e.g. Hotel Chocolat). However, in some cases the production and distribution method of them can make them potentially quite competitive to supermarkets (e.g. smol).

OMG I have been looking at the Tokyo Treat subscription for a few months now, is it worth the cost? Can you find the same items in oriental stores?
Thanks

Tokyo Treat have some interesting food in there (the see through cola was a particular hit with my kids) but the hit/miss ratio isnā€™t always good. You canā€™t get a lot of this from specialist stores so for uniqueness they score high. My issue is just around their ethos. This new wave of subscription services tend to allow you to start and stop, I do feel that I was mis-sold this subscription, thought I was dipping my toe in but it seems Iā€™m now in a long term relationshipā€¦

Youā€™ve reminded me of a service I was subscribed to a number of years ago. I dug through my emails and found I subscribed in 2011 to Candy Japan https://www.candyjapan.com/ which was set up by someone called Bemmu from Finland. Looking at their website, sounds like Bemmuā€™s still running it and amazingly the price isnā€™t much more (ā‚¬16.50 in 2011 now at $29 and shipping is still included). If Tokyo Treat donā€™t treat you well, I think Bemmu at Candy Japan will.

Ahh, is it hard to unsubscribe?
I signed up for Black Label, a brand that sells products for menā€™s hair and I already received 3 delivery that I didnā€™t want after their website said that the subscription was deleted. I sent now an email but they replied with an automated message that I need to call their customer service. I am contemplating to block their merchant ID from my Monzo just in case.

I used to get https://www.thepersonalbarber.com/ boxes, but cancelled as I have a massive amount of spare soaps and blades at the moment. Iā€™ll probably re-subscribe once I start running low.

Personally I found the razors a million times better than Cornerstone, Harrys, other disposable razors subs etc.

In my opinion Cornerstone razors are worse than Bic / supermarket own brand blades, although I may have just had a bad batch!

I personally love Cornerstone and I have been a customer since they launchedā€¦ I used to have so many problems with other razors but since using them I can get a perfect shave without irritations.

EDIT: I never tried Harrys.

Glad to hear it, I reckon I just got unlucky with the blades I received.

So many options for razors these days, I remember looking in the supermarket when I started shaving and didnā€™t have a clue what to get!

I struggled for years with razor burn / irritation, trying various different razors, creams/gels/oils etc, sensitive skin sucks.

Now iā€™ve got used to DE/cut throat razors, I donā€™t think I can ever go back, and its not like the cut throat is going to wear out any time soon, most of the ones I have are 50-100 years old already

I know, there is a new razor subscription a week, I wouldnā€™t mind trying the one you suggested (https://www.thepersonalbarber.com/ ) I am just worried I would cut myself.

The DE / Safety razors make cutting yourself much less likely, just donā€™t wave it around sideways and be careful around the chin (same as a regular razor)

Iā€™d steer clear of a shavette thing, you might seem them in barber shops. They take a while to get used to and are stupidly easy to cut half your face off until you get the hang of it. I tried a few times but always came off looking like Iā€™d had a fight with a cat :frowning:

Cut throats took me a while to get used to, mostly the angle to get a good shave, especially left handed around the jaw line as its kinda awkward to do your whole face with it one handed. I donā€™t tend to use that with the kids around though, last thing I need is the 2 year old running into me mid shave!
