Starling Feedback

Their Marketplace did expand just this morning, with WealthSimple integration being added.

I’ve set my sights on Wealthify over Moneyfarm and WealthSimple, but, it’s great to see, the more options in a marketplace the better.

We like to keep feature parity between our Android and iOS app

Not a dig at Monzo at all

I actually don’t think it is. Starling doesn’t have international transfers on iOS, while offering on Android already. They also have Apple Pay in-app card-provisioning on iOS (so you can start spending before your physical card arrives), but not on Android for Google Pay. Monzo has this with Targets (not on Android but on iOS) and Apple Pay (not available for iOS users, whereas Android users have Google Pay). I think it’s a genuine commitment from Starling to try and maintain feature as much as possible going forward.

The three main things that keep me with monzo are the interface, community / transparency feel and the fact it’s all built from scratch. ( I feel building from scratch will give monzo the advantage in the future ).

If it wasn’t for those I’d be with starling right now as the feature set is better.

Ahh well I’m banned from them for god knows how long anyway

My head turns for euro accounts…

(For the record, I don’t think that this is an either/or situation. Have an account with both!)

Oh yeah, same here - I heard somewhere the ban was for a year so I guess you can try later? Hopefully by then they’ll also be off GPS so they will actually have a solid product.

This is true, I should have probably kept it thinking about it. I ditched it for a switch incentive as I was using monzo more. Once the main features catch up I’ll be less bothered.

I understand why they’re doing this (on boarding customers costs money - new card, etc) but they should just make it possible to pay to reopen an account and just pass down the cost onto the customer; I’d be happy to pay 20Ā£ or so of fees to reopen a closed account, that sounds fair.

I was so confused when I just went to what I thought was the starling website :joy: https://www.snb.com/ I googled starling but spelt it wrong. Clicked on first result without looking.

Right color scheme too!

Starling website? You mean https://www.TCB.com?

That’s what threw me along with the similar name haha, they will have fun with that when they launch in the USA

Along with no Targets, Android users on Monzo also lack a decent/powerful transaction search feature - which has been on iOS for ages. :frowning: In fact, I can’t see any mention of improved search functionality for Android on the roadmap.

I think it’s unfair to throw Apple Pay/Google Pay into a discussion on feature parity; as both of those are entirely dependent on the device and its ecosystem. I don’t think Search and Targets have the same constraints.

Fair enough. That still leaves us with International Transfers and in-app provisioning of Google Pay.

Don’t close your Monzo account though. Keep it open in case you ever want to come back. Maybe Monzo might catch up with Starling sometime!
