Maybe with this update we’ll get a proper update log instead of bull talking about the bolts in the eiffel tower or Ringo in the Beatles or whatever little thing they use to refer to the small changes each week.
Crikey - proof of life in both Starling (they wouldn’t be wasting time redesigning anything if, as a few people suggested in this chat, they were really thinking of moving away from retail banking and focus on that BaaS product) and Chase (with possible credit card launch in the near to medium future) within 48 hours of each other…
I’m generally happy with ‘The Wheel’. What I want to see in big-bold-can’t-possibly-miss-it detail is my current overall balance in my account which one of the things I don’t like about Chase, and also not wild about the way Monzo displays that either. So, as long as they keep that nice and obvious, if the wheel goes, then I’m not going to be crying in my sleep…
Do you know why they’re not taking back old customers at the moment? I’m tempted to open a burner account with them for some sweet switch rewards, but also don’t want to be banned indefinitely.
How does Starling deal with missing logos? I just had a check for how you would report a logo to be added and it seems they only accept Facebook?
It seems adding a link to their Facebook page is the only way, unless you could maybe email them.
I’ve added a Facebook link to see how the process works. I also found another merchant with no logo and tried to add their LinkedIn page, but it spots it straightaway and says ‘the Facebook username you entered is not valid’.
For the merchant I provided the Facebook page link for, they had a global page and two UK pages, it seems set up by separate branches, while other uk branches had no page at all, fairly messy / inconsistent way of doing it.
I would have thought if you were going to use social media, LinkedIn would have been a more sensible platform to use.
They did! They removed it when it changed to X. I don’t know why they don’t make it so it’s a local device database for merchant information so the user can adjust to suit them
They don’t update logos anymore. Even from Facebook. This is what I got from Starling support. All merchant information such as names, logos are provided by the merchants themselves. All the data they provide, is what’s displayed in the app.
Revolut give the same message, even though they give ways to provide merchant data.
RBS allow you to feedback merchant data if the data they hold is incorrect.
You don’t get the option if the merchant doesn’t have any data already attached.
At a guess, it’s something the merchant controls and updates via their payment provider or when setting up their MCC as such.
No idea how any of that works (monzo use their own platform to force data).
Lloyds for example, they have no option to feedback and some of their merchants have logos, so it must come from somewhere.
Monzo has the most data for the reason noted above.
Possibly using Ethoca (owned by Mastercard).
Looks nice and good to see the homepage get a much needed tidy up. Been using Starling for our joint account, and it’s fine, but I find the budgeting tools/insights very meh, and there is lots of dead stuff like marketplace that needs either killing or massive rethinking.
Still of the view they are TSB with a better app, but it works for the other half, and that’s why we’re there
Agreed. It reminds me of what I see as the Monzo app heydays before it became (to me) a mess.
It’s like they read all my feedback about Monzo’s redesign
I have the splash screens as well now
I don’t use it at all, I only downloaded the app and logged back in to see if I had the splash screens. I hated how Starling’s app looked so I never got into using it as an account, but kept it open.
I only use my Starling account for the free virtual cards tbf.
Yes, I’ve never known the app without the pie chart/wheel, and I joined in 2018 or 2019. It’s always been the opening screen.
Seems like a nice update, but nothing to get excited over imo. I am very glad the pie chart is going.
I guess everyone has their own idea on what makes a good banking app and whether an app alone is enough. For example I don’t like apps that are too ‘busy’ and I prefer to have a web banking login as well.
