Starling Bank Chat (Part 2)

I’ve not been able to replicate yet, maybe only works for Bacs inbound? I’ll try send a payment see if that causes it to kick in.

Would’ve been good if you could’ve split it from account A into account B/C and those pots there too.

Guessing you’d need to then do the same on the inbound payment in account B/C, but can’t have autonomy for everything, right?

Right?!

:joy:

It doesn’t save the split, but maybe that’ll come.

Very nice though. Nice tidy easy flow. Especially when you have multiple Spaces as I checked the inbound to my JA when I did it, and it allowed me to split from there all across Spaces.

Very useful, I’ve been waiting for something like this for a while. I had to update the app to see it, I’m on iOS.

Hopefully they will look at automating it for salaries.

Auto bill splitting and a choice to have auto paid early (all banks could do paid early they just choose not to).

Nice little feature. Can see this being useful on payday.

If it eventually linked to open banking as it does the internal accounts then they’re definitely onto something good.

Just had their latest ‘Appdate’ - which is all about the new Split Payment feature

We’ve just launched a brand new feature: Split payment.

It lets you spread money from an incoming payment – like your salary – across your different Spaces and Starling accounts in just a couple of taps. Let’s take a closer look 👇

Doing the splits

Set aside money for your bills, budgets or saving goals, and build positive money habits along the way.

How to split a payment in app

1

From your transaction feed, tap on any payment that was received in the last 72 hours. Select Split payment.

2

Choose how to divide the payment between your Spaces, other Starling accounts, and your main balance.

3

You can use percentages to split a payment (adding 30% to your joint account, for example) or you can enter a specific figure.

4

Confirm your choices by tapping Review and then Split payment again. We’ll allocate the money between your chosen destinations.

I like it.

Just a shame they can’t stop these fraud txns showing up in my feed.

Bring able to sort by percentage is a nice touch.

Interesting feature but probably not useful for me, I use the auto topup feature in spaces + bills manager to siphon off all the things like that from the main balance.

This screen in Spending makes me believe that open banking is coming soon.

“Accounts” being plural is referenced 3 times. You can’t view your Joint or Additional accounts here, unless that isn’t yet merged and you’ll be able to use Spending as a hub for all your Starling accounts soon enough.

Interesting…particularly around this line

Ms Boden, 63, said it was “not really appropriate” for Starling to continue to have a shareholder as its chief executive. She still owns 4.9% of the company and keeps a seat on the board as a non-executive director.

I kinda think this is worthy of its own topic!

Massive kudos to Anne. Starling seems to be an excellent, robust, digital alternative to high street banks.

I suspect this is a precursor to either a sale or a change in direction. And interesting that she’s gone immediately, rather than waiting for the permanent successor.

But good shift. Job done. Congrats.

Agreed, just annoying they won’t prevent fraud declines showing in my app. They also told me to go speak to each merchant to have it out with them  apparently it’s under FCA protocol to push a customer to speak to the merchant themselves (which I don’t mind in case of a dispute or CPA).

Here’s Anne’s annual investor letter for those who want to read the source:

(I’m looking forward to reading more into business performance)

They’ve also published their annual report so you’ve got a lot of business performance reading ahead of you

Totally ignoring the woods for the trees, but I really like that website design and how the numbers are presented here.

I’ve already started!

Keen for your insightful views on the good, the bad and the ugly, too.

Agreed - it’s an incredibly well put together and designed web page and annual report

I do like Starling’s visual style. Oddly the app doesn’t do much for me, but I find the website calming, well designed and excellently presented.

By contrast, I found Monzo’s refresh a bit too shouty and busy. It’s the direct opposite to Starling though in that I really find the app redesign to be be largely uncluttered, relaxing and subtly powerful.
