As I said, I’ve given concrete examples where this is the case.
To repeat one. I go through my bank statements monthly. One time I saw a payment I didn’t recognise as all my bank statement said was “MB” and the date it cleared. I had no idea what actual date it was made, no idea about the time, the location. No idea whether it was chip+pin, cardholder not present, 3DS, nothing. I had to call to find the exact time the payment was made, then go through my google maps location history to check all the places I’d been and my browser history to the websites I’d visited. Finally, with the MCC I was able to narrow it down sufficiently to a company called “Roar”. There are dozens of metadata here that could have saved me a lot of time.
With just the name “MB” and the date, it was virtually impossible to work out what this payment was a about and whether I should query it before it’s too late.
Now banks can either choose to show the bare minimum “date” and “MB”. Or all the other data. Monzo use things like location to great effect. Time is very useful on days where you process dozens of transactions. So are all the other pieces of data.
Just because many people haven’t found themselves using postcodes of transactions regularly in the past with legacy banks doesn’t mean if we have the ability to display it would should hide it from everyone…!

Weird. I’ve been reconciling statements for 40 odd years, and yet had to Google MCC to find out what it was.
But with Monzo (or any bank with instant notifications) you will either immediately know what it is, or it is fraud? Or are you saying you go through Monzo statements monthly too?
I don’t for the life of me understand why people have to be so evil or cruel on this forum because they do not think a new feature would be useful. Well guess what the Earth revolves around the Sun not the evil and cruel.
The hate and vitriol for a simple “idea” does seem a little odd. I don’t go through this forum finding anything I don’t personally use and say “FOR ALL MY 40 YEARS AS AN ADULT I HAVE NEVER DONE THIS THEREFORE NOBODY SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO DO THIS”.
I thought I answered that at length in my first follow up?
I know there are forums of people who earn huge amounts of perks through their spending for whom this would make real wold difference of the order of hours of time and thousands of pounds a year.
Just because I only want it for some basic reconciling doesn’t mean I will begrudge them access to their own data!
I don’t look at my phone after every time I use my card. I’m not perfect - sometimes I even don’t check my notifications the next day. Sometimes I’m even so careless as to go to places without mobile data! For days at a time!
I also don’t have the memory I did when I wasn’t in my adult life. So even if I glance at something and think nothing of it, I can’t recall all the precise details a few weeks later.
Can you just accept that there are times where I can’t understand why I should have a payment to someone called “MB” but with some additional information to jog my memory I can work it out?
