Can you share the link to this applet?
I was planning to do a write-up on another thread but someone else shared screenshots before I got round to doing it!

You should be able to replicate the applets as in the pictures but let me know if you need any help!
Out of interest, why write the amount into a Google Sheet first? Or is it not possible to scrape the amount from the notification on the fly?
From what I remember when looking at it, the Monzo applet couldn’t scrape that amount directly from the notification. It may well be possible somehow though!
I look forward to seeing where this progresses. Tandem
Great news - very useful
This is really cool, thanks. Gonna try it out.
Other information that would be useful? Transactions that we can sort into the budget categories.
Brilliant, thanks. Looking forward to trying this out!
How do I do this? Do I have to create a Google Sheets for it first?
As you go through creating the applet, you’ll have the opportunity to specify a specific sheet - if one doesn’t exist already it’ll create one for you.
I’ve set up this first part it doesn’t seem to have set up s Google sheet though I keep getting this error
I’d recommend just copying and pasting the url (open up the spreadsheet then copy from there). That works for me. Feel free to DM if you have any questions!
Lots of thoughts around this… firstly excited as now have moved everything except our Amex to Monzo, so will be great to have everything in one place. However, currently the payments you make to Amex auto-categorise as “finance” - in reality the only thing that should categorise to finance on a credit card is the interest you are charged or annual fees, as finance fees for the credit facility… everything else (pretty much) would most likely be applied into one of the other categories (meals, groceries, petrol, etc etc) - so could the transactions for loans/debt facilities all come in waiting to be categorised? Also if you pay it off as a chunk, can you split the categories that the repayment goes against? (Am currently paying off every Amex transaction individually, to enable myself to categorise the charges and have the budget functionality remain useful/valid) - anyone else doing this more efficiently than my method, then I would appreciate any helpful comments
Are the troubles TrueLayer are having with American Express at the moment delaying this now?
I’ve just had an email from Emma that sounds like they’re giving up and moving all existing connections over to Salt Edge.
With Monzo using TrueLayer I do hope they look at Emma and take a second to evaluate the risk here.
I’d rather have the capability working reliably, than pushing it out and it just failing all the time.
All these back end bank aggregation services (Truelayer, Saltedge, Yodlee, etc) will likely experience occasional issues connecting to particular accounts. I assume every time a bank or credit card provider makes a change to the login processes the aggregator may need to respond with a change too, which could lead to temporary downtime.
In my experience, Truelayer has been much more reliable than the market leader (Yodlee). In fact, I think this is the first time I have had an issue with a TrueLayer connected account in the 12 months or so that I’ve been using various aggregation apps which have tended to use either Yodlee or Truelayer.
Haven’t had any of my accounts connected via Saltedge for long enough to form an opinion on reliability of Saltedge.
Completely agree but in recent times I’ve seen a lot of fluff on social about TrueLayer and AMEX in general.
The last thing anybody wants is for the feature to be released and then week one have it go down - it doesn’t look good on anyone, especially Monzo (thinking back to the days where they were ridiculed because of GPS’s issues, though different impact due to services affected)
I’m not saying they shouldn’t use TrueLayer, but (and I’m sure they already have been and will continue to) evaluate the impact recent changes has.
Out of interest, can you say a bit more about this?
The only issue I’ve experienced myself is the issue with accessing Amex via the Truelayer connection in Emma over the last few days. I haven’t been looking on social media though so don’t know about any more general issues.
I’d love to quote some actual tweets and conversations but to paraphrase David Mitchell, “If I remembered where I remembered everything from, I’d only remember half as much” - WILTY.
