It’s good to see them put in a real effort to improve their app. I would say the only real thing that is missing are spending notifications.

I’ve just downloaded the Santander iPad app and I think I’ve worked out why they called it an Edge card!

A new packaged current account from Santander.

Seems targeted at Nationwide Flexplus customers but obviously better than Monzo Max as well

Santander really need to work on their account naming though

How it works

Pay a £17 monthly fee to maintain the account. We’ll take the first fee the month after you open the account and then do this every month until your account is closed

To open an account, you must be 18-73 years old and live in the UK permanently (this applies to both people for joint accounts)

If it’s a joint account, you must both live at the same address

You can only have one Santander Edge® Explorer current account

If you have other insurance, you might be paying for more than you need. You won’t be able to make the same claim twice

Once you are 75 years old, you are no longer eligible for the travel insurance benefit.

You might need to provide proof of id, such as photo ID or proof of your address

One of the few to include European breakdown cover. Looks competitive.

Has anyone ever used these private GP’s? I’ve never really got the appeal of they can’t prescribe NHS prescriptions.

What’s wrong with their account naming?

For me, these product names are too close to each other (especially the first two) as to be confusing as they have different features:

  • Santander Edge
  • Santander Edge Up
  • Santander Edge Explorer
  • Santander Edge Student

I personally don’t really see what’s confusing (apart from Edge Up not offering the Edge Saver).

Edge is the standard paid offering.

Edge Up has a few extra features that the Edge account doesn’t (interest on account, more cashback on bills)

Edge Explorer has more features focused on travel

Edge student is the student account so has it’s own unique features.

It all makes sense really. The Edge Saver is the thing that I don’t understand, but at least they make it clear right at the top which accounts have access to it

I don’t mind the naming. Who knows where “Edge” comes from but it’s snappy and memorable. “Explorer” makes sense with this new accounts focus on travel with the breakdown cover and travel insurance.

I like the sound of this offering. Perhaps when we finally manage to complete on the house we are trying to buy and have more household bills I might move over.

I just wish the cashback on spending was on everything! Then I could move the majority of my spending and bills into one place. Can’t bear the thought of not getting cashback when I spend with my card these days! Currently getting T212 1.5% cashback.

From my experience, Santander’s mobile insurance is much better than Nationwide’s. Barclays uses the same insurer, and they came to my address to replace my screen in their van. Dealbreaker to fix my kids phones. Not sure about breakdown…

I used the one that came via Lloyds, via Bupa. I wouldn’t say it was worth paying for this.

It was a normal NHS GP who I highly suspect was moonlighting on breaks for Bupa. It was a good call but she basically said if I wanted to get further advice to ring my NHS surgery, which seemed a little silly all in all.

That’s basically my fear with these. If I ultimately need to go right back to square one with my NHS doctor then what’s the point of them? Without full private medical insurance they can’t refer me on or prescribe anything so they are nothing more than a human Google.

I called one using the Square health app through Scottish Widows dude said he could not do anything that I should call my GP and it is something minor.

I just had an interesting experience that’s never happened before.

I opened the Santander app and there was a splash screen saying that “It looks like your device has been jailbroken, rooted devices…” which was as far as I could l read because the app closed. Then I reopened the app and it behaved normally.

And, no, my device isn’t rooted - I don’t know how.

I’ve had that on my old Pixel a couple of times in the past.

Obviously haven’t paying attention to the letters Santander send me and just discovered that they took away my Santander 123 Mini account and I’m not on a bog standard current account.

Very annoyed to have lost my mortgage cashback and now need to figure out what to do in terms of bills cashback going forward.

Hopefully notifications are soon on the horizon

Looks like a more typical cashback scheme is coming:
