Santander Chat ♨️

Does everything I want without any issues. Everything is where I’d want it to be so easy to navigate. Doesn’t have all the features (budgeting is basically non-existant) but has all the important stuff imo. Definitely improved recently as stuff took a bit longer to load when switching between screens but this seems to be basically instant for me now which I’m happy about

It’s well designed and advert free. Missing a few things (like adding cards directly to Apple Pay).

Certainly wasn’t advert free for me. Life insurance popup galore lol

Do get the odd life insurance advert at the top, but it’s small and easily dismissed

Yea at least they give you the option to dismiss unlike that LBG bunch.

I’ve not seen any of those…is that still the case post-redesign?

Yep. Get one at the top for investment and life insurance but it isn’t very often

(This is a joke)

(Maybe)

Twice at Aldi my edge credit card has been declined via Google pay for a fraud check. Had to use another card and pass up the cashback.

That’s weird as my Edge CC works at Aldi via Google Pay every time :man_shrugging:

Must stick out compared to other transactions. Lord knows.

My old credit card did this a few times when I first got it. So willing to be lenient for now…

Now also appears I cannot login to the app

Edit - I got in

Not wanting to derail another thread with my previous banking woes but I applied for a Santander account last night as I’ve not used them since my wrongly applied CIFAS issues back in 2019 and wanted to see how they stack up to the competition these days. Only accepted for a basic account so had faith the details they had about me before internally were finally resolved as it used to be an instant decline.

Received a call today saying the account was closed with immediate effect as I was deemed a risk to the business. There is absolutely nothing more that could be causing this other than what happened back in 2019 which I am thankful I kept ALL the paperwork for from the FOS. On one hand I really want to fight it because I know they are using inaccurate data and I’m worried this might cause any implications in later years… but on the other hand, I think why bother and just move on.

I just would do this

Account wise I think they have some of the better offerings with Edge/Edge Up.
In terms of app it’s not bad but the main thing I’m missing is any form of notifications

Because if the day comes when you apply for a mortgage, it may well matter. Better to sort it out now.

Sounds like there’s a marker of some kind against you, just not the obvious ones apparently. Would it be worthwhile approaching one of the debt charities to see if they can use their resources and access to see what it might be? Not saying that you’re in debt, just that they likely have more capabilities than us normal mortals.

I’m just more concerned they wouldn’t give me any reason other than a ‘risk’ when closing my basic bank account which I was under the impression they couldn’t do unless it was due to fraud etc which just plays into my CIFAS from 2019 theory still registered on their systems somewhere.

Have you not been opening a few banks recently? Perhaps they just see that there is no CIFAS marker now, that you have other bank accounts (most basic bank accounts actually do stipulate you have no other bank accounts at all) and that just with all said and done they don’t want to take any risk. They are allowed to do this really. It doesn’t mean there is a marker.

Checked on live chat and they said opening a second current account would typically involve a credit search! Unlike the twitter agent. Go figure!

But it’s not right that banks can willy-nilly apply these markers and ruin innocent people’s lives.

Innocent people have the marker removed and all is good, I hear some say. But clearly it isn’t, and it has lasting implications. What if they needed a mortgage but a bunch of lenders wouldn’t consider them? It could cost thousands.
