Crypto memes.

No idea why they’re doing them on cards, whether there’s an actual reason or if they’re just trying to be down wiv ta yoof.

Given there’s a material & colour picker underneath, maybe you can also submit your own text to go on the card in a previous step which isn’t shown on these examples?

Aw I miss Fail Whale :whale:

I suspect ‘Whale’ here refers to someone with lots of crypto assets.

Bit of a surprise- Revolut’s leaving Canada. I think this is the first time Revolut has pulled out of a market before making it out of beta there.

Honestly I’m not surprised, breaking into the Canadian financial market as an outsider is almost impossible. Even most of the US banks that used to operate in Canada like Chase, Bank of America and Citi have left (at least for consumer products) and Capital One is really just a shell of its former self in the country (recently giving up its Costco partnership).

To be effective you need to partner with one of the major Canadian clearing banks and most (other than a smaller institution Home Trust) aren’t really interested in partnering with potential competitors.
The government (and previous governments) have had little interest in making the market more competitive and basically every market (financial or not) is duopoly or oligopoly (if you’re lucky).

There are a lot of great things about Canada but Canadian’s get ripped off left, right and centre.

The thing about Revolut is, I’d probably buy Monzo’s interminable waits between lacklustre features, with occasional bleating from staff about how much there is to work on behind the scenes with the tech, if Revolut wasn’t working at the speed of light and basically being successful at what Monzo said it’d do.

To be fair to Revolut that actually may make what they’re doing even more incredible and impressive, they’re getting so much done before they’re a bank as you say, so perhaps if when they are one the regulation slows things down it doesn’t really matter because they’ve already got such an impressive offering it’s barely noticeable. None of this ‘we’re becoming a bank THEN building you the features’ but rather ‘we’ve already got all the features you need and plenty more, AND we’re now a proper bank!’ Whether intentionally done like that or not it could be a strategic master stroke’ which completely avoids most of the issues the other players have had.

That being said, Revolut’s approach sometimes leads to them overextending themselves and having to retreat, like in Canada. Not that it excuses Monzo for their own failings, just that moving quickly as Revolut does has its own downsides.

That being said, I’m hoping the bank charters they’re applying for in the US and UK end up opening more doors for them in terms of what they can do rather than constrain them.
