Face id is smart tech.
Either claimant was negligent and installed some third party app (TeamViewer, AnyDesk etc), or just willing gave everything away to access their accounts.
Embarrassment means people will never be fully honest about what happened.
You can turn off the attention aware feature of Face ID in which case it does work with eyes closed or non-IR transparent glasses. So you can’t even say it’s negligent as for some people with certain glasses that’s the only way Face ID will work.
Either way, the customer should just confess what actually happened.
Mine arrived Saturday, interesting for the White card the details are all on the back, for the gold one it has my name on the front and numbers on the back

I think it’s hard to digitally colour something as 24k gold without it looking tacky, obviously 24k gold in person doesn’t look tacky, it just looks like gold.
