Does the markup even apply to card transactions anyway, as they dont settle over the weekend?
No idea, I don’t use Revolut. I know they aren’t 100% “free” of fees in some ways but I think some people focus too much on this when it cannot possibly be worth the time worrying about.
If you see a croissant you want in Poland for 10 zloty, just think “That’s about £2”, tap your card and be on with your day.
Yeah, agreed. In the upper end of spending say £500 over a weekend, its a maximum of £5 in costs.
Yeah, true, unless spending significant amounts over the weekend in a foreign currency, it’s probably not worth the worry
100% agree
I use Atlantic Money to send a few hundred quid to my Irish AIB account, £500=€592 at the moment which is pretty good, but most of the time I’ll just spend from whatever my main account is if it doesn’t charge for foreign fees
With Monzo / Revolut it’s not worth caring about frankly, it’s a negligible amount of money
If you’re lifting cash, it’s around £7 or 12% for a UK issued card, free for EU issued ones. Your Revolut card is issued in the UK so gets hit with this. You can avoid it if you get a Bankera card. That said, you’ll likely not need much if any cash.
I’ve noticed that for card transaction notifications, rather than showing a total sum ‘spent today’ figure, Revolut is now pushing your account balance in the notification.
Anyone know how to disable this?
I’ve had a hunt round and can’t find anything obvious.
Doesn’t seem very sensible pushing a user’s account balance in a notification message for a myriad of reasons
I think it’s a very good idea and I wish other banks did it.
What reasons wouldn’t you want to know your balance?
I’m thinking more about the privacy aspects of a notification appearing on your phone whilst making a payment in public, for example, or the fact that it’s a piece of personal financial information that is being sent outside the confines of a secure app.
At the end of the day, receiving that particular piece of information through a notification means you have your phone in your hand.
And wouldn’t you just, well, check the app if you wanted to know your balance?
I don’t disagree with it in principle, if that works for someone, but I’d prefer a toggle to turn it off before it was made live.
Toggles for everyone!
Jokes aside.
I don’t mind the balance being present, however, optional could be good as I have the revolut widget on my Home Screen which is fairly quick to update itself so could do without seeing it twice.
The “balance is lower than £30” notification is my least favourite.
I used to have monese and that did it also
Howcome this doesn’t happen in the UK?
If you just have a read here for ones involving “CIFAS”
You can see all the people even complaining that they got a marker from participating in fraud, which seems to be the worst consequence for them - but in Ireland they follow through with the courts?
Ofcourse we wouldn’t want to go after people who are themselves victims - but I’d wage a bet that the majority of the time it’s very similar to what happened in the Irish Independent article above
Though I guess CIFAS is probably a good enough punishment, you have a good point that there is not really much the courts can do
Will current Revolut account details change?
I am nosey, did account details has changed when Monzo became a bank and account users had to re-apply (agree to new T&Cs)?
Think you gotta downgrade, but if you order the card youll be charged the card fees.
I wonder if we’ll see some more competitive savings rates as and when the Full Licence is finally granted.
