When adding a receipt at the moment it only adds a photo to the purchase, however a future idea would be to automatically convert the paper copy into text, so that it is easier to view the receipt later on. This could be done automatically by the app, (like reading the card number by the camera when you top up your initial amount) or manually entering in the receipt. This would make the receipt look clearer on the screen and easier to view
There’s been quite a bit of discussion about this already here Better receipt image handling.
Not a good idea. The retailers want too see a real receipt or even a photo of one for returns & warranty reasons. A digital one would not be accepted as proof of purchase by retailers…
In my ideal world I would like to see payment by mobile (apple/Samsung/android pay or PayPal etc) and a receipt sent to my mobile in return - this process could also send / use loyalty vouchers. No need for paper copies that you throw away / lose. Using the paper copy as proof of purchase is seriously in need of a rethink. I know the logistics of getting every merchant to send an electronic copy is almost impossible but it would make it a great time saving feature. Electronic receipts could also be imported into money manager apps for further analysis.
Anyway just putting my thoughts - I know monzo can’t do much about it. But still hoping someone out there comes up with a solution.
It’s definitely going to be a challenge but we’ve already seen integrations with Monzo from Flux (electronic, itemised receipts & loyalty schemes) & Scrummy (loyalty schemes) so it looks like we’re heading in the right direction -
