so why not keep your legacy account, and use that to top up your monzo account, like you do at the moment(I assume)
If that is an option then that is what I will do.
Before Monzo (which I assume was your first use of a prepaid cards as a primary payment method) came along, how much did you worry about this?
There’s nothing forcing you to use the new current account as your main account
I understand the extra element of financial control is one of the big benefits of our current offering, but very little will change in terms of the service when we switch to debit cards. The option to top up from a different bank account will still be there, so if you prefer to drip feed you money into your Monzo account, that will be possible. The main differences will actually just iron out some of the frustrating issues surrounding payment with a pre paid card; automatic blocks at some vendors for example.
I might have missed this…what’s the timescale for being able to get a proper bank account with Monzo?
How can one agree to the new T&C's?
@cam1210 This is totally dependent on how the rollout of our first <100 cards goes. We’ll keep you updated
How can one agree to the new T&C's?
When you start offering current accounts will I still be able to have a pre-paid debit card? I have come to appreciate the security that it provides, especially when especially when travelling.
I’ve moved your post here, as hopefully you’ll find all of the discussion / answers around this idea useful.
If anything’s been missed, it would be great to hear your thoughts
Quite a lot, actually.
Fair enough! So which of your concerns aren’t addressed by the security features that Monzo provides now?
I can see the point of having a card that only has access to a limited amount of money. I’ve seen recommendations in the past for people to have a bank account that they transfer money into to spend abroad or online etc. So if something happens and the card is stolen or cloned, the account gets emptied but their main account is still safe.
I’d be reluctant to have all of my money in one account and then regularly use a debit card from that account. Even if the money is returned, having your cash tied up while you discuss the fraud with the bank is not ideal.
If I use a credit card abroad or online and it is cloned, I get to argue with them over whether they will debit my account, or even kill the DD.
I almost never use my debit card for these reasons.
Me neither. I’ve not used a debit card connected to my main account for maybe 10 years or more. I destroy the card as soon as I get it.
Until I got into using these pre paid things I relied on credit cards (which were regularly blocked for fraud) but now I’m so sick of cards I want to dump them completely.
Jeez. I thought I was paranoid.
Lol on a more serious note, when the current accounts are launched you can still choose to only keep £X on your Monzo account, thereby having the best of both worlds.
I cannot deny I find your comments deeply offensive. If others think it is appropriate to label concerns of others as ‘paranoid’ then so be it.
I’m sorry that you’re offended but no offense was intended, clearly. It was a harmless joke.
We’re all adults here capable of participating in reasonable online discourse. Not sure how you’ve gone this long if you’re offended this easily.
Spending 4 days with the police makes me think my concerns are not completely valueless.
That’s cool. I don’t care about your concerns.
You asked a question and I answered it. I’ve already said I didn’t mean any offense but clearly you aren’t comprehending that.
Okay. You don’t care about criminal activity. So noted.
I’m going to close this thread for now, as we’re a little off topic here. Feels free to continue the original discussion in another thread!
