Hi, we (5 Monzo friends) recently used Monzo for our week long trip to Ireland. We all paid for this & that and shared the costs using Split bills, BUT felt it was hard to see who owed who what during the week. We felt it could be made clearer by making the MONEY OWED Tab - Red & Bold. And MONEY DUE Tab - Green and Bold to signify the difference clearly.
Hi @chrisecob. Welcome back.
It looks like you used “Split Bills” on each individual transaction which is ideal for the occasional transaction, but I believe a shared tab would have made this much simplier for you.
You would each add all the transactions to the tab, selecting who owes what (including setting certain people to owing £0 if necessary). Monzo will then automatically work out what each person owe each other and lets you “settle” the amount you owe.
It would also make your feed look much less messy.
Thanks for this, but I tend to disagree with this. We don’t use ‘Tabs’ as it’s all a bit messy (I still have a Tab open from last year, and the person still owes me, even though they gave me cash - so we have tried using it).
Split is far easier who ever is at the bar, restaurant or petrol station pays the bill, and we split equally five ways every time - nice and fair. Tabs looks complicated with running a tab for each thing the person has paid for.
I did request a few years ago ONE account that all chip £1000 into so that becomes the ‘kitty’ for the week. Nothing has progressed with this.
Monzo still great and we all use it when away biking or skiing for the split bill purpose, but for all of us it’s still not our main bank - lots of stuff on Radio 4 sounds about this just recently.
