๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ‘€ [Pay from pots with virtual cards]

I think we are on to something here.

They wonโ€™t need to bother with physical credit cards then because if you need to use a card you can transfer the money from the pot to your personal account if itโ€™s interest free on cash advances. It depends on how they build the product but this update with virtual cards and pots has just made Monzo so much better!

I used to hate having my NowTV and Adobe stuff declining because I didnโ€™t know when to transfer the money!

Iโ€™d have loved your pot image to be the virtual card image in Google Pay! But you canโ€™t have everything!

Changing colour seems great, but I already canโ€™t remember which is which and I only set up two!

You can with Photoshop* - hereโ€™s the two I did yesterday for the MiniMe spending money pots/VCโ€™sโ€ฆ

Ah ha, thatโ€™s the way to do it - do it the other way around!

(Not optimal but good enough, I think!)

Really love this idea :ok_hand:

I was so pleased when I first tested that and found it updated so quickly!

Unfortunately each of the designs has to be independently configured: Iโ€™m not aware of a way for us to dynamically generate card artwork, or have lots of variations. Uploading 8 times 2 designs (Apple + Google Pay) took me long enough :see_no_evil:

Iโ€™ve just been through and changed a couple of subscriptions over to Virtual Cards attached to Pots.

All at Monzo, this is really great - well done!

One bit of feedback: When selecting a funding source for a Virtual Card, having to select from a list and then tap โ€œCloseโ€ doesnโ€™t feel quite right. As itโ€™s a list where Iโ€™m only going to select one item, Iโ€™d expect the action to occur when I tap on a pot in the list, not having to confirm it with another button.

How does Apple Pay identify the colour change?

Does the card and the bank constantly exchange digital handshakes? Is there specific identifiers not related to the card number

This is what I thought would happen, definitely needs a description on the virtual card in Apple Pay.

I was under the impression that the graphical representation HAS to reflect the actual card (an Apple rule) - if that was the case Iโ€™m surprised they were allowed to get away with it.

Do any other cards from other issuers not match?

The new BA Amex designs donโ€™t. I have the new design card but the old Apple Pay design.

I think this got launched?!

Went to manage pot, and said I can have virtual card for it. And got me to the virtual card flow allowing to select which pot to pay from.

It has to be a new virtual card, not an existing one.

Yup, two days ago!

Thanks I am slow. But canโ€™t seem to get virtual card into the Google pay wallet. Maybe I need a new one for that too.

You can add it manually, but only a newly created virtual card not one you created prior.

Created new one. Can add it to Google pay as online only card. Cannot activate contactless on it to use it for NFC payments. Sadness.

Ouch.

Maybe time to switch to Apple. Haha jokes.

Maybe the team will see this and have a look into it.
