Overseas Bank Account

I read that it supports Apple Pay.

Totally missed it but the Schwabs brokerage debit card I received a few days ago now has the contactless icon on the front - previous one didn’t have it all

Has the design changed?

Same old (with an iPhone edit)

Still embossed then!

interesting that they haven’t updated it to be more like the Schwab Bank design in the US.

The bank card designs changed in around 2022 at the same time they added contactless support. Surprised they haven’t updated the card design yet but I guess if it ain’t broke then don’t fix it.

I wish they’d get to approving my card already… my request where I sent the form says something like “your request is in review”.

Would I have any luck giving them a call?

I would say try it, they are very good on the phone

So I was too tired to go yesterday and it’s middle of autumn today (national holiday)

But I will go on Tuesday to open this, just for the Apple Wallet addition.

I’m Singaporean with a HSBC UK Premier account. HSBC are very strict here about the income requirement as there’s a regulatory minimum income requirement to apply for a credit card, and for foreigners it’s SGD 65,000. No skirting around it unless you’re willing to fulfil the other regulatory requirement - which is to park SGD 10,000 in a fixed deposit account that you can’t withdraw from, and your credit limit will similarly be set at SGD 10,000.

My Santander International GBP Gold account debit card. I also have the EUR account and card, but that’s at home.

So £38K salary needed (probably £40K)

Then lock away £5.5K in a fixed deposit account and then your credit limit is the limit of the fixed account.

Yours is in a better state then mine.

Mainly as i still use mine a lot

Glad as Jersey Citizens we don’t have to follow the new £500K rule from Santander International

I’m trying to use mine a bit more. But it’s annoying when you send a faster payment to SanInt, and then it takes a good few hours to credit to the account.

We still would, no?

I opened mine back in March when there wasn’t the £500k criteria. All done through my UK address though.

Ummm depends on the bank.

I send from Barclays to Santander International often and takes seconds. Also can confirm this for Lloyds and Ulster Bank

So basically a secured credit card?

I had a similar experience in Panama due to the bank being difficult about foreign income. I had to get a secured credit card, keeping the funds in a 0.75% savings account for 12 months. After that the money would be unfrozen and I could keep the credit limit. They eventually x10 my credit limit without me asking

I then moved to another bank for their Premier account. They were more flexible with foreign income, but I found more curious was that they offered a US$25k credit card if you deposit US$100k in the bank. No questions asked. You could deposit the money, take the card, then move the money out of the bank and still keep the card with the credit limit.

If this is possible I would most definitely take this option as the premier credit card is quite beneficial if using to book travel through the premier portal

Residents of the channel Islands and Isle of Man don’t need the minimum £500k deposit. The rest of us sadly do!

I live in the UK full time. Santander International has my UK address. I opened it before the new rules came in about £500k minimum new business :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:. Pretty exclusive account.

Very lucky indeed as it is now a highly exclusive account
