The discounted prices + marketing results in more sales which = more money. So there could be no significant additional cost to anyone.
For example, a retailer might sell 10 of a product at £1 on a normal day earning them £10. But if they reduce their price to 80p for Monzo users & Monzo markets their product (at negligible cost to Monzo), then they might sell 20 of that product in a day instead, which means they make £18 as a result.
There’s also the potential for increased spend by those additional customers getting something else whilst they’re in the shop. Probably a lower % of the user base but still a factor.
I voted Yes as I love a discount, but I would like it to be regularly updated and to have semi-decent offers, for example O2’s Monday Lunch for £1 is great as its a bargain for the consumer and is something we don’t find anywhere else. 2 for 1 Cinema tickets are also pretty good.
I would also like to see some cash back offers that are automatically applied. Similar to how the american express offers work, apart from it would be nice for it to automatically add the cash back to your account rather than having to click on a ‘Activate’ button.
I’d have imagined it would be something to do with clutter. The Monzo app is really polished and clean right now, and I feel like this would just be annoying.
